182 engine rattle.

Hi, my 182 has got a very loud rattle like noise from the engine.. I tuk it to an engine garage & they said it's coming from the bottom part & it's the camshaft bearings,but as they attached to the engine they can't check unless I get the work done.plus change the dephaser at same time.. I went for 2nd opinion from renault who said it was coming from the top part of engine & it's cam followers & recommended engine flush, if that don't work (Which it didn't made it worse!!)then it's cambelt dephaser & replacement set auxilliary... For £1500! Does anyone have any knowledge of this plz as now I'm confused!

Seriously?! Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise IT had to be perfect!! I didn't have all day to type my question as I'm at work.. I was looking for real advice not childish comments.Oh & if you've got time to look at my age/profile you really need to get out more.

Without a video of the noise it's impossible to diagnose tbh.

It sounds like the dephaser or could be the big end bearings if it's been run low on oil.

If you where at work then you should be working and not on CS. [emoji33]

If it is the big end bearings then your best bet is to buy a s/hand engine.

If its just the dephaser then you will need a new dephaser, cambelt kit, aux belt kit plus engine oil and filter.

One of the specialist on here would charge about £600 to do that job.

Ok thanks... Renault mentioned the dephaser so il try that. Does anyone know any good garages in Cornwall?
(As for work, I needed 5 mins away from crazy holidaymakers!):tonguewink:
