182 HELP!!!

  clio 182
i bourght my first 2004 clio 182 on sunday 1/3/15 from a dealer the car was not listed with any faults and it has been stamped in the service book its had the dephaser pully and aux belt done. i took it to my mechanic today for a full service for piece of mind and he has found that no service had been done the engine is mis-firing, a wheel bearing needs replacing, gearbox mounts needs replacing, engine mounts need replacing, discs and pads need replacing all round. can anybody advise me of my rights as a customer because i have no idea.

Thanks

Take it back with a list of the faults (from the garage) and tell them to sort it or you want your money back. Your covered under the sale of goods act.

Yeh as above you can get your money back thats your right if any hassle tell him you will go trading standards and sort out legally bet he gives you your money.the laws on your side .

I echo what has been said above but just out of interest did you inspect the car before buying? Did you test drive etc? Not that it will change you being able to get your money back, just wondering how all the faults were missed lol

You mentioned dephaser and aux... but not cambelt. Do you have receipts to prove the major service?

thanks for all the replies,
yes me and a mate of mine who owns a clio 182 ff we both test drove it and the car was spot on pulled very well we both were quite impressed no rattles or knocking but the EML was flashing for a few seconds but the dealer said thats renault electrics for you and we both belived him STUPIDLY wen i got it home which was a 20 miles drive it ran awful and yes the dealer said it had the dephaser and aux belt done but ( i forgot about cam belt ) :relieved: and he shown me the receipt but i got the car home had another look through paperwork and found that the receipt was missing i took the car to my local mechanic and he rekons the engines been in pieces because its been put back together with that red instant weld stuff and not put back correctly but it sounded mint on the test drive i dont get it and on closer inspection of paperwork last night ive found a few dodgy things like i think its had a dodgy MOT from 2014-2015 because the mileage was 95570 from august 2014 and on sunday it had a mileage of 95675 and it didnt have ANY MOT advisories !?

Yea sounds like a complete money pit! How is the refund going? No doubt the dealer will try to offer you a "deal" to get rid of the car, just take your money back and walk away. Good luck!

unfortunatly the refund is a no i spent over an hour arguing with him but no joy he kept saying i have to give him chance to repair it which is bullshit ive been on to trading standards and when the cars "fixed" if its not right ill be going down the legal route if he still says no !

thanks for the advise but the main faults where a running fault my mechanic rekons engines misfiring he thinks the engines been in pieces and put back together badly, and engine or gearbox mounts need replacing, new discs and pads all round there the major faults, minor faults are - washer jets dont work, needs a radio code, exhaust mounts need raplacing. ill see what it comes back like because at the time i had no choice it was either give it back and let them repair it or risk them telling me to do one and having to fight a legal battle which i cant be botherd doing its all a nightmare...... he said i could have my mechanic do the work but my mechanic didnt want to get involved because its like opening a can of worms he might end up losing money on it

Dear Sir/ Madam

Ref: [registration number of vehicle]

On [date] I purchased, and took delivery of, the above vehicle [make and model] from you. On [date] I discovered that it was not of satisfactory quality: [describe the problem].

Section 14 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 requires dealers to supply goods of satisfactory quality. However, the vehicle is clearly unroadworthy. You are therefore in breach of contract.

I am legally entitled to reject the vehicle and to be reimbursed for its full purchase price of [£xx]. I look forward to receiving your cheque for this sum within 14 days. If you fail to reimburse me I shall have no alternative but to issue a claim against you in the county court for recovery of the money without further reference to you.

Yours faithfully,

its a nightmare you dont mind replacing disc and pads ,or even engine mounts,is a 10 year old car..the exhaust mounts last about 5 mins..main thing is the engine... are the light jet washers? everyones fail..you need them for your mot now..
how much did you pay for it?
mine went back twice.. i wanted my money wouldnt give in..in the end took it to Renault.. they sorted.. just every little fault makes it worse..

it was up for £2500 knocked him down to £2250 its a real shame because the exterior of the cars mint not a dent or scratch on it only paint swirls but that can be machine polished out and the interior is mint no rips in the seats nothing its just the engine work but it sounded mint on the test drive dont understand it

on a test drive you cant tell..unless you have owned one before.. or take someone whos owned one..go through it with a fine tooth comb, even then you cant see underneath.or.get it on a ramp..you can only check the basic things.. half of the time i dont think the dealers know what they are selling.. they take them in part ex..wash them just put a price on it..
if your engine is ok,you can sort the rest out, i would wanna know what monkeys been at it,what were they doing..who has done the belts...they are meant to be strong engines..if are serviced /belts done..
i have a great Renault place near me..tells you straight..
you can go on line check all the mot history.. give you an idea of its past

If your guy fixes it you won't have a leg toasting on buddy. The dealer will claim your guy carried out the bad workmanship and wave you off into the distance. Start the proper route ASAP ie. Issue a rejection letter and if you don't get your response go legal. Trust me and good luck.

in the end my mechanic dosnt want to get involved in the running fault because it could be anything its like opening a can of worms he could put a price in and it work out 2x that so ive give it back to the garage and said sort it out if its not sorted im having my money back.

Just make sure you stick to this pal, don't let them bully you into thinking you have to comply with their suggestions. As many people have said, you are within your rights for a full refund!

Don't forget, if they "sort" the car out it will need all of the parts you need fitting AND the timing belt doing as you said there is no evidence of this, can you trust this "specialist" to do a proper job? It's not a name we would recommend on here for belts that's for sure. I would just ask them to stop wasting their time and yours and tell them you 100% want the refund. In some instances you might still actually have a good deal but this sounds like a dog, especially with the talk of the engine being worked on and being reassembled poorly!

Your engine has been clocked as well, it could be a 120k+ car for all you know, and with the condition it's in, get rid of it.

Don't bother getting it fixed, you'll find a much better and genuine car for the same prices.

time to grow a set mate, I had a similar problem with my niece who bought a mini which was a bag of spanners I went around to see the guy who sold it to her to demand a full refund he got all mouthy so I punched him hard in the face and threatened to pull his testicles off that seemed to work and a full refund soon came my nieces way

The gratuitous assault approach can land you with a criminal record, and a civil action for damages. Just go the legal route, reject the car.

  Cio 172 Cup,Porsche
IF YOU ARE HAVING THE CAR REPAIRED, USE A NON-FRANCHISED RENAULT SPECIALIST PARTICULARLY FOR ENGINE WORK. BERT THE BLACKSMITH CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD TO THE TIMING OF THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE.sorry, had caps lock on

could it just be an error by the mot place? .if you was going to clock it, make sure it goes back to over 96000 .so no one would know...if you put 120000 on it since last may.. put it back to 97000 say it was off the road broke..
its not like the old days, all the old mots can be checked now,,, back to its 1st one..
