5k kick??

  182
Hi

just gone and bought a 182 from a Renault specialist.. was doing some research and apparently they have a good surge of power at 5k . This one seemed to lack it but was extremely low on fuel.. anyway could this cause the 5k loss

  182
Ohh well no idea if it has but it certainly went well just expected to be thrown back into seat lol.. perhaps low fuel didnt help

If or when the cam belt was replaced the timing may not have been lined up 100%, in turn it can mess up the VVT.

Tbh I think I did notice a little lift but wasnt sure what to expect. Renault themselves did cambelt so assume they'd no how to do it correctly

I wouldn't say so mate, Reno are renewed for making an arse of cam belt changes, i'd look for a good specialist for the belt changes on the RS cars over a main dealer.

Sorry i meant that a Renault specialist did the cambelt not renault themselves.. the car prob is ok but when u read things on forums and never driven a 182 I just was expecting a turbo kick feel at 5k but I think something happened around that rev range it felt slightly different.

Mine is like this mate and i know the timing is spot on. Could be the type of exhaust you have got. Some smooth it out a bit as-well as a map. Some people say their kick is very noticeable. Mine is not as much but does seem to pull well. In regards to being put back in your seat; they do when booted in 1st and second at 3000 RPM+ revs. They don't really pin you to your seat throughout the rev range though. If they did I would never sell mine, ever.

Its prob me just being paranoid having saved to get a 182 I want to make sure its running as it should. As said seemed to pull throughout and exhaust made a nice sound although im sure its standard. Car could be remapped for all I know tbh.

What does the car rev to? A sign of a car being mapped is an increased rev limiter at 7800 RPM

Is it???

Didn't think that all cars that where mapped reved to 7800?

I also thought that if reving to 7800 you needed to fit ARP rod bolts?

7.8k is high even with arp bolts!

The "kick" is more like "oh, that's nice" not like a NOS button in fast and furious

I feel the 5k kick more than i felt the turbo kick in in my corsa vxrs tbh.

Both my vxrs must have been broken.

How does yours feel mate as I did a thread about this before as I too was concerned. Mine just increases acceleration, which is noticeable, but is not that different feeling wise.

It increases in acceleration and sound slightly.

If you can feel something, then its probably fine, its not like you get smashed up the arse from a rocket or anything.

Mine sounds fine too then. Someone once described their kick as quite violent and I thought mine must be broken then. I need a local owner to take me for a spin but I don't know any. See loads about though! None on here don't think.

As far as im aware of that generic maps have a raised limiter of 7800

Engine dynamics map is 7500
Yeah ARP bolts is a good idea. I remember telling ya ages ago I was going to get some but there a pain to fit aint they

Ill let you know, i have a set going into mine.

The old R-Sport ECU had the 7.8k limiter, also I think the old RSTuner maps did. Generic maps are set at 7.5k nowadays though IIRC.

From what I've seen RSTuner still raises to a 7.8k rev limit.

When I map customer cars, it's 7500 unless they have ARP's and cams then it's 7800. I had a car in this week that had been mapped by someone else with the piper cams, and that had a 7900 limit on stock bolts!

My 182 used to kick noticeably and the tone of the engine changed at 5k. My 172 didn't quite so much, that said NWP had changed the cambelt and fucked it up so that would probably explain that one.

Noticeable in which way?

Non AC cars are easy. AC cars require slam panel off. Most difficult part is getting the sump bolts off without them rounding off usually.

In mine, on anything other than a bone dry road, the 'kick' in 2nd opens a new world of wheelspin when you were certain you had it all sorted.

That should be easy enough then. :)

My old 182 had a raised rev limit and went to 7850rpm and that had the RStuner map with standard bolts.

As said before it's more like a little lift of power at 5k but nothing that will make you go wow.
