Black gold 182 FF my new car :D

  BMW E36 328i Sport
Hi everyone I'm stuart I signed up here a year ago looking for a 172 cup but ended up not getting one as the insurance was to high. So a year on I rolled my saxo onto its roof at knockhill (first track day) and started looking for a new car. Got myslef a 182 with both cup packs minus the front splitter (ordered a k-tec carbon one) 32k 54plate im happy to say the least.

Cars getting the timing belt done on Friday a nice £528 welcome to Clio ownership lol.

While waiting for my old insurance to run out and my new policy to start the car got cleaned a fair few times.
Well I got my p1 today and did the whole car by hand! Literally sweating bucket loads by the end!

I'm a newbie to detailing these are my results:
Car was washed and clayed 2 weeks ago then just sat in the drive. It got snowfoamed with megs hyperwash and a hint of autoglym shampoo yesterday and today p1 by hand.

I'm happy with the results pic were taken on my phone and it wasn't very sunny comment welcome :D

Fitted a pipercross panel filter ad took the car for a long drive yesterday as it was the first day I was insured. I'm very pleased with the car but the budget tyres are crap! So will be getting new ones.

Just the basics thinking piper exhaust and de-cat, coilovers, matched inlets, upgrade engine mounts. Really want to cam it but that won't be for a long time if I ever get the money together.

Was thinking about turinis but the standard wheels are growing on me so will refurb them as the old owner couldn't park for toffee lol.

After this i need to look at some new suspension not sure what to get yet, im sprinting mine next year;)

Absolutely gutted to say the least!!!

Car went into get the timing belt and aux belt done a few hours later the garage phone me saying that there is oil leaking from the head so the head gasket needs done and it would be cheaper to fix it now rather than leave it and get it done another time. So now I get my new car back on Wednesday :(

oil leaking from the head gasket? I really need to look into the technical side of these engines (just bought my car yesterday) but finding some interesting stuff already.

  S4 Avant
It's very very common for the head to leak oil, the head bolts are the cause, and not the head gasket. Stop them doing it, now. Infact stop them doing the cambelt as well if they don't have the Renault locking tools!

  BMW E36 328i Sport
Do the head bolts just work themselves loose or do they stretch? There the only Renault specialist I know local and I checked and they use the genuine locking tools for timing.

  Dodgy one
From the head gasket?? new one to me! I know the cam covers leak but that can be solved with a bit of silicone sealent easily enough,

headbolts do stretch but can be reused depending how far they have gone just leave them in a tub of oil

I know what you mean mate the paint looks very nice in the sunlight. I didn't even notice the gold when I bought the car as it was a bit dirty. Only got one scratch on it, it's about an inch long just behind the door on the drivers side. I got a quote of £230 to spray the 3/4 panel and the door so it matches. But now the head gasket is away so paint isn't a priority.

Well got the car back yesterday and all is good :D

Timing and aux belts done, new headgasket, head bolts, oil, oil filter.

So pleased there's no problems........well the heatshield rattles but it did that before I put it into the garage. I'm going to tighten it up at the weekend and fit my powerflex dogbone mount.

  BMW E36 328i Sport
Prowerflex dogbone mounts fitted :D I love the improve ment it just makes the whole car feel tighter. It took me ages to do since I only had basic tools but it's worth it in the end.

Same mate I'll look out for you what's Clio have you got?

Took it to Rentec autocare ltd there down towards seafield road. They did a great job.

Got a little Black 1.2 with a 172 engine in it and a few bits done trying to keep the sleeper look at the moment. Not heard of them I know where Seafield road is though will have to look it up wasn't aware there were any speciallists in Edinburgh I take it they're quite new? Going to need the belts done myself and by the time you buy it all and the tools for the all the hassle involved would be aswell taking it there. Do you know if they changed the Auxiliary tensioner aswell?

Were you on Edinburgh cruise asking for help on something ??

Don't know how new they are just got recommended them through a friend, both mechanics worked for Renault I think there both were master techs. £528 for timing belt and aux not sure on tensioner. Phone them up mate the guys always have time to explain stuff.

Yeah lol small world! There used to be a Renault tech on there that had there diagnostic machine needed the immobiliser resyncing got it done in the end though.

Planning on giving them a call at somepoint good to know. Will keep an eye out for you bud where abouts in Edinburgh you from?

I got the number for that guy you were trying to get hold of on ec from a friend, it's that guys brother that owns Rentec.

I'm from colinton mains, just down from oxgangs and dreghorn.

I know where you mean i'm up that way quite often. What reg is your car will keep an eye out for you. That could be handy mate did he say he would do homers? He never got back to me tried sending him a pm etc there used to be someone on there that had the clip and would come out to you for some beer money. In the end got it going just thought as everything had been disconnected a while the immobiliser might need resynced it's turned out to be ok in the end.

  BMW E36 328i Sport
SK54 VKE is my plate. I think the guy does homers but didn't want to do my timing belt so told me he would book it into his bros garage Rentec for me.

What does your Clio look like?

If your speaking to him mention what I was looking for on EC and see if he would have been up for doing it if he wouldve been I might take his number incase I ever have problems if that's ok.

Trying to keep it standard little black 1.2 not many giveaway signs going for the sleeper look for now.

Removed the acoustic valve at the weekend.

Mot is at the start of December so priority is just to get the car through that then start modding in the new year. New windscreen is needed for the mot though :(

  BMW E36 328i Sport
Well car just failed it's mot :( had A broken front spring which I didn't even notice lol. The garage got quoted £134 for a spring from Renault so I've now decided to buy sportlines :D The windscreen passed even with the chip in it ;) only advisories were rusty back discs and the windscreen so not bad.

The guy I bought it off lived in edinburgh as well, I live down Colinton Mains its near oxgangs

Where did you roll it!?

I take it you mean the saxo, did it at knockhill on the slight off camber right hander just before the chicane. It slid sideways onto the grass then the driverside wheels dug into the gravel :(

Also forgot to add I've fitted a whitline rear arb, not noticed if theres a difference because I've only driven it in the snow so far.

Got it RR'd last week and it made 171.6bhp 143lbft apparently it didn't pull as strong as it should and might need a service the guy doing the runs said.

Butchers. Good corner, need to get it just right or your entry to Glenvarigill will be humped!

Think it was the combination of inexperience, pishing rain, lift off oversteer, off camber corner and a bit of bad luck. I've looked into track insurance as I want to get the Clio on track bu I'll be a bit more cautious this time.

Was the most fun I've had in a car until I crashed.

Did you get tuition? - Thats the key, Knockhill is a very technical track. I'll happily take you round if you need some pointers. Done a few laps in my time.

  BMW E36 328i Sport
No tuition and first time on track...

After everyone hears that^ they think k**b end but I wasn't driving like an idiot.

That would be great Ali, I'm wanting to do one of the track Scotland days this year if I've got the money and the cars running good.
