Bottom pulley change... retension required?

  172
Looking at changing my bottom pulley to a lightweight one

If i put the locking tools in and removed just the bottom pulley, am i likely to need to retension the belt?

Officially, you should yes but if you pin the crank and cams with the proper tool and don't touch anything else, you should get away with it.

Fit a new crank pulley bolt!

Thanks mate

Another question... when locking the engine... is it cylinder 1 that needs to be at tdc? I believe this is nearest the gearbox?

Cylinder 1/4 will be in the same position so either of the outer two will be fine. For reference though, cylinder 1 is flywheel end and cylinder 4 is timing belt.

 Ah thats ok then. Timed engine up out the car.. Not run it yet.

Then read that no1 was flywheel end... i'd used 4

Had a sweat on lol

Nah, it makes no real difference as they'll both be at TDC and it's the same with the ignition side of things to in that you can mix up 1/4 & 2/3 without it causing any problems.
