Very interesting indeed. Definitely something to consider for the future, especially for a car I'm not supposed to be modifying lol. I need to stop looking at cages and things!

I am very much down with the problem of "f**k-it". I seem to suffer from that a lot. Need to make some parts for the pedal box in my Escort so I can fit the column and seat etc....but....meh.
It seems to be a common ailment mate!

You're not wrong there. My own fault really, got in a bit deep with my car so it ended up as almost a shell. Everything is modified so everything requires a lot of fiddling to make it work. Difficult to stay motivated when the appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel!

Much easier to go indoors and have a beer or two lol.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I just cba.

Definitely hard to stay motivated. More interested in driving cars than building them these days.

Perhaps I will put a thread up about the 'scrote, see if it makes me feel more enthusiastic lol.

I personally like the Fushe Titan Pro S (Or whatever its called nowadays) Ether based and in 5W40 it is fantastic - made both my Elise and Clio run so much nicer and quieter.

So whats left to do on it mate?

The oil it'll be running on once it's mapped is Mobil motorsport. It's a 10W60 and I've always run my motors on it.

Off the top of my head I'm not sure tbh. Need to have a look at it and see what's left.

Those little edging strips to tidy it up, looks good.

I put a thread up about one of my Escorts and bought some brakes today, pretty sure that counts as progress.

Do you run a thicker oil because of the forged pistons needing bigger piston ring tolerances? I wasn't quite prepared for the oil consumption of forged blocks(!) so was in the back of my mind to maybe try a 10w40 or 10w50 over the normal 5w40 grade.
I didn't notice much consumption until the temps really dropped so I presume most of the consumption this time of year is because it's so flipping cold the ring gaps are at their biggest whilst it's warming through. - so maybe the 10w40 might be the best first try?

My reasoning for using it comes from a lot of engines running forged bottom ends burn off the oil like it's going out of fashion from the larger clearances. Once up to temp it's not so much of an issue. As you are finding out, forged engines like a drink.

Indeed, Summer was fine - 1ltr every whenever, maybe a few thousand, I never felt the need to log it anyway. But as it got cold and when I changed to Millers CFS Nanotech over the Milers CFS Racing I noticed it was getting thirsty. Logged the llast top up and was 1ltr in a 1000miles - was during the really cold couple of weeks and short journeys on the school run don't help matters either.

So could try a 10w40 then next winter - but will that cause any protection problems? For the cost of a few extra pounds on oil if there's any protection issues I'll just carry on filling her up I guess.

I was perhaps a bit naive but I thought using 4032 alloy forged pistons with a tighter gap then they would have been fine.

1ltr per 1000m is actually classed as acceptable by most manufacturers mate! Lol! Another reason for the 10/60 is that's what the M cars run on, albeit castrol edge (formerly Rs), so if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for mine! Lol! Having spoken to a mate at great length, there may be a u turn and it may well be mapped on fresh mineral oil. I was basing my theory on past experiences with a turbo motor, but obviously a n/a engine doesn't work the oil as much as a turbo motor does.

Not all! My Evo lump was forged in 2010 (13k miles ago), I also run Castrol Edge 10w60 in it as recommended by the builder, I've never had to top it up between services, although it doesn't get track abuse :smile:

yeah it just surprised me tbh, I know it's all healthy still as it made 182lbft at Surrey RR a few weeks ago so compression is still good and high.
Guess it sounds like some 10wXX is needed to cover winter at the very least perhaps. I'll look in to it.

On my forged Astra turbo motor it used to drink 1ltr of oil AFTER the oil was changed, then nothing after that until it was time to change it again! Go figure?!

This must mean that my Clio is forged then, because that uses a bit of oil, especially on track.

That's my story anyway!
