BREMBO's Black - Ph1 172

Well I picked this Phase 1 172 up a week or so ago. I seen it on Auto trader and noticed the car as being local. I also recall seeing it kicking about Edinburgh from time to time; I also knew where it stayed lol
Anyway I don’t need another car but had a feeling it would be a good one and I fancied a little project, I went to view the car on a Sunday and having just spent a good couple of hundred pounds on the Audi for a service and just booked a holiday on the Saturday I was thinking to myself I was being a fool! Anyway it now sits in the lock up.
It’s a black Phase 1 172 (x plate), it’s had the same owner for over 10 years (makes sense and is something which is always appealing) he bought it off his best mate from new. It’s done just over 64,000 miles; cambelt was done around 52k but is coming up for over 5 years in about 5/6 months, various stamps in the book (not full) and all MOT certificates and books etc.
It’s fairly standard minus the sub and amp, this was put in by the first owner and in fairness was the thing to do in 1999/2000! I can let that one slip. Also has a K-Tec exhaust as the older exhaust was rotten so the owner which I bought it off found this as a cheaper replacement.
My intentions - It will go one of two ways either a track car or to tidy it up and make it OEM – I’d imagine it will be the latter.
Anyway pictures of the car as it stood and with its cooler beefed up brother:

Car also came with the original mats which I was very pleased about as they are rare in the blue and I also noticed the rear spare wheel as never been used or possibly touched which again is a positive:

Looks good, what's your plans? Gonna machine polish it up/polish it?

Yep, thats the next step. Will try to machine polish but personally prefer doing it by hand. Waiting for some Malco wheel cleaner to arrive.

  FRP - Clio 182
Clean, very clean example. I would look at removing the door rubbers give them a good clean in the bath with warm soapy water then treat with your product an refit, come up so nice, I did this with my FRP ones and worked really well. I will be doing it with Clio ones soon as well.

Thanks mate. I will do that. I actually took the inside door grabs off but scrubbed so hard the paint has come off or maybe it was the G101. Anyway will spray them now.

  FRP - Clio 182
Would be surprised if it was the G101 but yeah bet that was annoying. Lick of paint see them right. Forgot to say love the V6, looks to be a nice example also.

Thanks mate the V6 means an awful lot too me :grinning:

Yeah I bet, I have an FRP which is my pride and joy:

I got the Clio 182 for the other half but has turned into another project for me.

I have promised myself a Mk2 Clio V6 in my life time, but at the rate the prices are increasing I might have to re-think that.

Excellent stuff! Glad we come as some inspiration

On such low mileage for a ph1 I'd defo keep it clean and OEM/OEM+ as it's too nice to strip and track.

I will be keeping an eye on this closely

saw this on autotrader too and was tempted to go take a look as it was listed as edinburgh, sub and amp put me off a bit thinking it may have been owned by a young chav but it did look really clean. and it was cheap. congrats on the purchase look forward to updates. will keep an eye out for you.

Was you thinking of buying Jamie's/my ph1 before I bought it?

You don't see many ph1s on the road and and certainly not many with sub 80k. A bit of TLC will get it looking a peach

Have you got any plans, modifications wise?

  A special one.
This is not my fault.

WOW mate that is bloody epic, i love it.

I would love a nice black PH1 but if i had the money then it would have to have BOOST!!!
Do not strip it for track, look after it and get it mint, ill cry if you don't.

  225 Cup & Williams
Looks great, Ben! I was wondering when someone was going to snap it up.

Looks in better Nick that mine anyway lol

  Clio sport 172
Looking good. I have done all that to mines. Was filthy.

Look forward to more updates.

Paint on mines was really hard

I always liked that Ph1 and again looked a good example, I should have made more of a effort to go and view it but never did.

Plans wise I have a spreadsheet with a list - will try to upload this but I'd imagine the list will grow!

Thanks mate, I didn't know you had one or thought you had sold it. Still tempted for a Williams but feel I would have to keep it forever!

Looks epic mate, very clean. And thanks for the tag, that means a lot!!

No worries mate and thanks

  225 Cup & Williams
Nah I've still got mine mate I'm slowly but surely doing it up not that it's a dog or that but it's don't 143k now so the steering component are a bit tired along with suspension etc.

I'll be keeping my Williams for as long as possible.

Getting there very slowly, glad with some progress I have made, new bolts etc also ordered for engine bay/arch liner etc then will hopefully get the alloys refurbed, serviced and MOT as this is due in April. Starting to get a wee soft spot for it!

Haha, the ph1 love grows strong! Nice to see be its being changed for oe stuff.

I did the same with regards to the side repeaters on mine, gives it a bit of colour. Silver calipers will make it look nice and fresh against the silver wheels/black body work.

Also get the expansion bottle off eBay. £10 odd as opposed to £40 odd that Renault charge and all that is different is the lid, which you have new

Thanks for this. Is this a set price regardless of wheel size?
