Broken 197 :(

  197CUP
Driving home from work Friday afternoon and pulling off roundabouts at higher revs noticed big power losses - decided (stupidly) to stop and turn it off/on again as in my old car this reset 'limp mode' however once turned off wouldnt start again!

Currently awaiting diagnostics from Renault - I was thinking maybe coil packs/fuel pump relay but the guy from the towing company plugged it in to a basic code reader and said it had thrown up a 'knock sensor' fault.

Anyone had similar or know much about the knock sensor jobby?

No - not looking forwards to it! Just had new tyres and wheels all done too which adds to the frustration, only had it back on the road for a day :/

Walbro unit from Ebay? gotta be less than RUK prices and surely the 197 will not need the quoted 255l/ph i think they are? Could be cheaper if its a compatible part. :) Worth looking into i suppose, however im not a 197 owner nor mechanic, so please double check the above before purchasing!

I'm in Crewe mate however the car is in Doncaster @ Renault. Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just let them do it. Seems like a strange thing to have gone - it's only on 27k!

Might be asking a stupid question - How would I begin to go about doing that??? Go through the dealer or just start calling/emialing people

I had the exact same thing, been a hero and blown past a few cars only for it to cut out on a roundabout. Then had to abandon it at the roadside! Oh the embarrassment of being towed home by me Dad un his defender lol!

The lads at birchdown sorted it. It's not unheard of on a 197. Mine was two months out of warranty on 30k at the time!

Same - got a 3 month warranty from K-tec when bought which is a week or two over now :( Had a good chat with Renaulot yesterday and they have no fuel pumps they'r eon backorder so god knows how long it's going to take but its been there a week already! However I managed to get them to consider to go 50-50 with me and I'll be recieving a response from them on that today!

Until then I'm enjoying the luxuries of my sisters Fiesta Ghia with pleather seats :banghead:

Good look with the contribution. They shouldn't be giving up after them amount of miles!

Agreed but what you have to take into acvount is actual run time to. Its a motor at the end of the day and has a finite lifespan. Vehicle mileage doesn't translate to how many hours the pump has actually run for.

That being said this does sound a bit premature.

Don't write off Renault UK either as they are extremely helpful to those that have their cars looked after properly, even if its with a reputable specialist. We have a long term customer with an '09 plate Clio III with a now dead ePAS column. A new one was £1200 alone without fitting or configiring yet after 5mins on the phone to RUK they contributed 70% on a vehicle that was out warranty.

Pretty good customer service that is to me which is why I run Renaults myself.

Unless its been sat idling for a weird amount of time, surley the mileage is all you can go off?

I'm not trying to start an argument/debate on the subject or saying in any way that the OP has been sat for months at idle. I was simply saying that a motors finite lifespan isn't measured in nor does it translate to miles covered by the vehicle.

Still no response other than renault are waiting from a comment from the dealer to assess weather or not they'll be coughing up half towards. Not sure if they even have the replacment part yet and I'm fed up without it already!

Success! The pump has arrived and 'should' be fitted tomorrow so I can pick up tomorrow or sat. Also Renault have agreed to go 50-50 on the bill. Impressed with the dealership in general so can recommend - EVANS HALSHAW DONCASTER
