Bugger! Advice needed please

  FF LY 182
Hi all,

My 182 is fitted with a straight through milltek exhaust with decat. Now it's that dreaded time of the year when the MOT is just around the corner, so I've sourced a Cat to put on for the test to get it through emissions. Problem is, the original Cat won't fit :weary:. What would CS suggest I do?

Get some pics mate, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you why it won't fit and what your best course of action is

You will need the adaptor that comes with the exhaust when new

The above picture is a standard 182 manifold.
The adaptor fits the centre section to cat not the manifold.
You can see were the manifold gasket is leaking carbon so I would fit a new cat to manifold gasket kit while your there.

Maybe I've got the wrong Cat then? I bought it from the 'for sale' section on here and it was advertised as a 182 Cat though

Here are more pics of the car from the same car :smile:;

From looking at yours it seems the way the exhaust was fitted has got you into a pickle. Did you install it or did somebody else? Somebody looks to have welded on your decat to the midsection instead of using a clamp. This could have been done for a variety of reasons.

Almost every other photo I have seen shows a clamp of sorts being used for this join. being a U clamp or a slimmer concentric clamp as the below shows:

Another 182 running a cat but with the rolled end join like other French cars of the time.

In order to make a stock cat work it seems you will need to chop the exhaust carefully at the weld, possibly fit on a little more pipe, then put on the catback adaptor sleeve so that the cat will then mate up.

Of course, your other solution is to find a friendly MOT tester...

I cant see a weld.
All you need to do is get the small adapter, undo the flange bolts and the clamp take the decat off fit the adapter in the mid section fit the cat and clamp up, on a ramp it would probably take 10 - 15 mins

I'm fairly confident I could do it no trouble, I'm not completely incompetent. BUT if I can get someone to put it through the MOT without the hassle of buying a new Cat (the one I have isn't the correct part), sourcing an adapter from Milltek and then fitting it all together, then I will.

I couldn't see a weld with the photos either, but I could not also see a form of a clamp either. Do you have a shot of the other side of the exhaust? Do you also have a shot of the cat you have obtained?
