catalytic converter problem

i was just coming home and the car started making a whineing noise rather than a rattleing noise it seemed too be coming from the cat has anyone ever experianced this problem? also is the car still safe too drive?

Mine went, sounded like a blow on the exhaust which got worse and worse till it sounded like one of them stupid big chavvy exhausts eventually it fell off and i needed a new one

it only seems too happen once i hit 3000+rpm the car is under warrenty until next april from the garage that i bought it from ( not a renault dealers) but would this be covered or is it down too wear&tear?
