Central Locking Problems

  Clio 182
Hi All
I wonder if any of you guys can help.

I went to Renault as i've had a problem for a while where I have not been able to use the 'blip' on my key. Replaced the battery and ordered a new key which Renault have programmed (needed a new key anyway). However this has not resolved the problem.

On my invoice they have noted the following

Central Locking - Requires UCH Estimate to replace £344.40

I don't know what a UCH is, but I know what £344.40 english pounds is, and I would'nt mind keeping as much of it as possible!! Is this something I could fix myself? Is a UHC some sort of sensor? I'm going to give GDI a ring later to see if its something they could do, but has anyone else had the same problem?

Thanks in advanced

Paul

Ok i've done a search, and i've found out what a UCH is. By what I can tell all Renault have to do is replace it a programme it? Is a UCH expeensive or is it just Renaults labour charge bumping up the cost. From what i've read its not something I can do.

i had a quote the other day for a UCH for my car, albeit a lesser model its probably a similar price to yours, it was £176+vat plus about an hours labour, so only around £260 with my local renault specialist.

the problem i have is thats what they think is stopping the central locking working, but mine is intermittent e.g. sometimes it locks/unlocks with the key and other times it doesnt. i want to be 110% sure its the UCH if im going to spend that sort of money.

Keep us updated with what you do mate.

I'll let you know how I get on, my key fob just does'nt work at all!! I would'nt of thought the UCH would be much different between the models. (i'm no expert though!!) I just think my local dealer is rubbish, i'm never been confident with them. I've not phoned GDI yet so we will see!!

I've spoke with Andy at GDI, he could fit one, but not code it to the car. I've spoke to another Renault garage (not a dealership) but they want to run another diagnostic test on it to confirm Renault are right about the problem. but thats £50. He said he could do the work just on what the Renault Dealership say without the diag test, but if they are wrong, thats £300 or whatever its gonna cost to replace a UCH that may not need replacing.
