Changing ABS rings, can i paint to help stop rust?

As the title says really, if i give them a thin layer of spray paint before fitting will it cause problems?

Won't matter realy.

But for the hastle its not worth it, they break and are cheap to replace so no poinbt bothering trying to make them last forever.
