cheapest way to go faster!?!?

  glanza
hey people, just got my 172 and love it to bits :D
had some questions..
firstly, what is the cheapest way to go faster? basically what mods are the cheapest to buy/fit or alternatively what mods would you recommend?
cheers!

Good brakes are cheapest way to go faster.

Ds2500 pads, brembo discs, braided lines.

Following that, good suspension.

Any of the engine stuff etc will make very little difference in the real world. Exhaust will make the car feel faster. Decat will improve responsiveness. Same for induction kits, remaps etc, will only make tiny differences.

Decent panel filter, decent exhaust and a decat.
Tie those with a remap and you'll feel the benefits.

all the little things added together make a big difference... stripping the car is by far the cheapest modification though!

10bhp for a grand isnt a big difference though... a car with good brakes will leave one with light engine mods for dead on anything but a dual carriageway.

Anyways, buy whatever makes you smile :)

loose weight is the first step, if you dont want to be hardcore and loose the back seats and get light weight front seats etc then just loose the spare wheel, tool kit, boot liner etc

next step some eibach SportLine springs (make sure the dampers especially the rear ones are in good condition too and replace if needed)

then brakes, brembo max disks, DS2500 pads, braided lines and a fluid change with some decent fluid will see you able to make some decent progress over a backroad!!

power wise, ive got a Clio 182 manifold, K-Tec/Janspeed Decat, K-Tec/Janspeed Recessed exhaust system and ITG pannel filter and mine goes really well, match that with angelworks matched inlets and an RS Tuner remap and it will be a nice power gain!

Hardly the cheapest way to go faster though!!

clios:

loadsa money = he haw performance

As said get better brakes if u must spend mooney otherwise strip it.

the order of doing things varies and depends upon loads of things (not least of all, the driver and the car).

also, track cars and road cars are different.

some might disagree (and it does depend upon the car) but the order of doing things with a dedicated track car might be:
[- safety gear (cage, seat, harness, extinguisher, etc)]
- lightening
- tyres (biggest difference to lap times and, *bonus*, simplest mod)
- brakes.. down, may be
- suspension.. up, may be
- engine/transmission - lsd, etc

stripping the interior (lightening) from a road car isn't for everyone and cages/seats/harnesses/track tyres aren't ideal either, so you're left with the age-old three (brakes, suspension, powertrain).

this is where things become complicated as, with a track car, the last thing on the cost-effectiveness-list is engine mods, but they're much more appealing in a road car.

personally, i'd still start with the brakes and suspension as improving those will increase your confidence(*) in the car before you make it any faster.

(*) depending upon your attitude and experience, you may well find that some form of advanced training (on or off track) supercedes all of these suggestions. you're the driver.
