Renault meggy
It's a bit of a long story but I really need some advice.
I took my Clio in to Renault a few months ago before I went on holiday. It sometimes did not start if I left it for under an hour.
Renault fixed this problem by replacing my ECU, TCU?, wiring looms ect... Which set me back £800. A bit steep I know.
Also, I told Renault before I took the car in that sometimes the automatic gearbox went in to manual after the starting problem resolved itself.
So, I was on my way home in the car and it was acting up. Basically its an automatic car so I should not need to take my foot off of the accelerator when it changes gear. But now if I don't take my foot off it rev's up like I have my clutch down (I don't have a usable clutch).
I turned around and went back to Renault who said that the problem is with the gearbox and it had this problem when I took it in (it did not). They also said it would cost around £1000 for a new gearbox (I had a new gearbox 14 months ago).
I wasn't willing to pay this and I also thought that wasn't the problem. I thought that the ECU had been programmed wrong or the wrong ECU had been put in the car. Or even the wrong TCU. I don't know I'm not a mechanic.
I rang an automatic gearbox specialist who confirmed almost exactly what I thought. They said the garage may have put a newer ECU in the car or the wrong one/programmed wrong.
So my question is, where do I stand?
Also, does anyone know any more about the situation concerning wrong ECU's for automatic's ect...?
Any help much appreciated.
