Connecting Xbox to internet

Got my Xbox online at the minute with a wireless adaptor and wireless modem downstairs. My mate thinks I will get a better connection if I switch to a wired connections.

How do I connect it though? I have a telephone line beside the xbox, what else do I need.

Ethernet cable into wireless router, other end into xbox, done.

Was hoping you wouldn't say that. The Xbox is upstairs but I can't get the wireless router to connect when I put it upstairs.

Connect to what? If you have a phone line port upstairs too, surely you can just move the router from one to the other?

I seriously don't understand it, can't get an internet connection if I move the router

does that phone line port actualli work, the reason i say this is because i had several in my old house and only two worked, have you got an old style phone which just plugs into the port in the wall, use that to check it works?

Yeah checked it before with an old phone

do you not need one of those micro-filter things in the socket as well.

Your mate is right, you can't beat wired ethernet. Can't you get a long cable and run it through?

Yeah you need an ADSL filter in the socket upstairs.
