And i've just done a full circle and my SERV and abs light has come on. I'm thinking i've snagged the abs cable as i've realised in my stupidity that I forgot to put the ABS holder from my old struts on the new ones!! ARGHHHH Hope it's just pulled out the plug and not damaged anything.
Did you have to get a taxi to that kerb? ;)

I have a fear of kerbing my wheels after kerbing them slightly the first week I got them 😧

I've still got the cheek to fold in my n/s mirror too (just incase)
Know the feeling. Refurbished alloys 3 weeks and I scraped them- I don't care that I now stick out as much as a rangerover...

Thanks for the comments. Bad news about the spoiler :( it's reacted again at the last hurdle :(

I heard someone say something about this before with theirs!! Can't believe it. He's had to start it again :( I'm annoyed for him as it's a lot of work for him especially over Xmas. He knows his stuff though and I fully trust him, but he says it can sometimes be if the spoiler is a cheap version. He did give a full explanation I'll post up later I'm just on my phone where copy and paste is hard x

Gawd, why cant anything be simple and straight forward. Your man sounds like he knows his stuff and will be able to get it fixed with a different primer or something.

The exhaust knocking on the subframe on mine is doing my box in, I am wanting to get it booked in to a custom exhaust place but they are all fully booked up until after new year :(

That's true. Where are you thinking of going? Tony Banks? Can't stand it there, think it's so "get you in and out asap" once went there for a mufflerectomy and tailpipe fitted on my Focus and they were rushing me so much that they completely forgot to ask what tip I wanted. They simply weren't interested because I wasn't up for their full system costing mega dollar. Dicks.

Anyway, i'm about to make some food then go out and fit those ABS sensor brackets and inspect where the clunking is coming from. Maybe remove the nearside strut to inspect the top mount. I'm not going to be happy if the bearing has gone after what, two months of having them on?

And if i've got time/ not frozen to death i'll try fit those exhaust mounts. @optical are they fairly easy to do? Any tips apart from the glasses thing in terms of fitting please?

Fitted the front abs cable holders. I inspected both cables and they're both spot on?! No damage what so ever so i'm not really sure why the light came on the other day! Bizarre.

Light being awesome again haha

I've also lowered it a bit more at the front so it fills the arches nicer. Will see if I can get out of my driveway tomorrow though 😂😂

I started tackling the rear mounts as they are shot to pieces. Surprisingly easy as I expected the bolts to be rusted in but not a problem. Used an impact wrench too which is the f**king nuts for saving time.

The old mounts haha!! Previous owner tried using cable ties and jubilee clips originally as the original mounts were shot. I tried to even it out a few times wit them but it was pointless.

I then packed the new mount with sturdy pipe at each 4 sides and cable tied them in place. Just to prevent the new mount from moving as much as no doubt it will fail soon with how flimsy they are standard.

My only problem is that the exhaust tailpipes are not central :( And you can't adjust the exhausts to the side with these mounts :/


And this is my cupboard slowly filling up with old car parts that i'm deciding on keeping as they might come in handy at one point! There's actually a new wheel bearing in there ready for if mine goes!

Nice mate, i didnt think you would have to tie wrap the old mount tho, might as well just tie wrap and pack the old one?

The tie wraps are just to hold the bits of tubing in securely mate. They're not taking any load, just simply to stop the bits of tubing from wobbling free if you get me?

Yes mate i get you :smile:

It just bugs me knowing the mounts have tie wraps through them, i would love the underneath of my car to look as good as the exterior, its in the back of my mind even if my springs are mucky lol.

Today I cleaned the car some more and gave it another coat of Natty's paste wax blue as last week I gave it one coat but needed to stick another one on.

I also adjusted the tailpipes to the right. I realised how I could do it. Simply remove the rubber pipe I put in the left and right positions of the mount and put more at one side compared to the other. Hard to explain!

Anyway, instead of just posting the pics in my same old fashion as that gets boring I thought i'd trawl through my thread when I first started it 6 months ago and get the pics in the same angle and compare, just to see the differences, if any, that have been made! Some comparisons are fairly obvious. Some not so!!

On my A3, one side sat lower than the other even with the adjusters in exactly the same place on either side, so to get it to actually sit level, one adjuster sat higher than the other.

Best way to do it, and what I did, is to find a piece of land that is 100% flat and measure from the top of the wheel arch to the floor and adjust from there.

Just out of curiosity as I have to do this too once I fit mine - when doing this would you get someone to sit in the drivers seat so that the car is level with the driver in the car.

TBH, I never did and it didn't make much of a difference. There's too many variables to get it 100% spot on, such as how much fuel you have etc.

Measuring from the arch to the floor on level ground and looking by eye is the best way to get it sitting as level as poss.

:dizzy: It disturbs me that you don't clean it more often haha


Anyway, i'm experiencing more clunking when turning the wheel and after removing the strut it all seems perfect bearing wise. They're still smooth as ever and no play in them. However one thing I have noticed is that when pressing the silver platform , I can push it down around 2mm! As per the detailed picture (not my bilsteins)🙈🙈

@incy-spider my lovely bilstein guru, is this 2mm movement normal or should that platform be tight as f**k? I've tried tightening it but it won't go anymore I don't think.

I found when I put mine together I had to put a big washer on the top because the collar on the PMS top mount was a bit on the narrow side, it was just a precaution because I'm like that, maybe that's what your problem is, also why are your springs black!!?

When I lived at my parents, I had a newly built Tesco Express about 5 mins away with a completely flat car park which you got to via a mahoosive wide speed bump. I adjusted them slightly, put wheel back on, went measured them, came home, adjusted some more, went back and measured them etc etc.

I miss the looks I used to get from people when I scraped the f**k out of the underside of my car when going in and out!

I went and gave it a measure tonight. Once on a very flat street near me, not sure how flat but on a scale of one to incredibly flat it's quite a lot flat.
Then another time in a layby near my house which isn't as flat, maybe a 5 out of flat but just to get a rough average / bit of validity.

So there's a difference of ~11mm on the rears when on the flat ground! Fronts seem to be spot on though so I won't be adjusting them.

The wheels also catching on the plastic front arch liner on full lock which is a bit of an annoying noise, I need to think of a plan as to how to address them. They move easily enough with my hands but need to think of a way to push them forward towards the front bumper.

And this clunking isn't great. Going to upload a vid now of it as I went to get my hair cut tonight and it was really apparent in the car park.
