Driving on a frayed aux belt???

I wouldn't personally, I'd rather shell out for the £70/80 recovery bill than a ££££ engine rebuild tbh.

I thought most 'reputable' garages off a 12 months warranty on their work? Where I get mine done the parts carry a 12m warranty with the manufacturer and the garage offers a 12m warranty on their workmanship.
Although to be fair, the amount of horror stories i've read on here, I'd rather not let NWP work on my car i'd rather foot the bill and take it somewhere else!

To be honest i wouldnt be driving it if the belts were due never mind damaged, you've been lucky. Dont tempt fate...!

The belts aren't due, they were done over a year ago. The previous owner had the work done at NW as they lived in Manchester.

The most direct route is down a bypass so I don't think pc plod would like that! If I was to go the non bypass route it's easily another 10 miles on the journey.
The RAC will charge for a tow from home to the garage but I might find out the exact amount.

I'd also be asking NWP if they have anything to say about the fact your belt has chewed itself up after 10k miles...

Why not just fit a new aux belt yourself, its not hard

Just checked and working it out the cars only done 8-9k since the change. It was done in Novemvber 2009 along with a full service, so a year and a half ago. I can't imagine that NWP will really have anything to say looking at some of the posts on here.
I just spoke to BTM and they've had to replace a number of belts that NWP have done due to incorrect fitting. I'm hoping it'll just be an aux belt change but we'll see!

Do you think they'll be that bothered? Surely they'll just make out it could be down to another fault causing the belt to fray? I'm pretty disappointed but I'm just glad it didn't take the cambelt out!

I'd give them a call before bad mouthing or anything of the sort on here, and ask them politely if they have a suggestion for a resolution.
Thats all fine and well but what has caused it to fray in the first place??
Needs investigating before chucking a new belt on.

Thanks but I'm not that clued up on the Clio yet to be taking bits off! If it comes down to it Fred can tow my car to the garage as it's not that far

get a mate to tow you a mile or so down the road, cut the aux belt off and call the rac. they should be able to take you to a garage of your choosing (depending on level of cover though). Tell them the technician said it would be ok to drive like that to a garage, but clearly it wasnt and could have cost you an engine.

I use a mate of mine that charges me £1.10 a mile one way for a car collected or being towed. Cheap as chips tbh
