ECU/Central Locking Problems

  clio 172
Hi all,

A friend of mine has just bought a clio from a breakers with a central locking fault.
It is a 1.2 16v D4F712 and he is looking to buy a locking kit including ECU, UCH and key fob to cure the fault.
Ebay sellers say that the part numbers for the replacement units have to match the existing or the car will need re-coding, does anyone know if this is true? If not can he replace it with an ECU of the same brand/make (magneti marelli) without issues?

Basically the car cannot be locked with the key fob, interior lights and indicators don't work and neither does the dash locking button. We think we are going about things the right way by replacing the locking kit but any other suggestions or help would be much appriciated!

EDIT: Just to note immobiliser light does not flash on the dash as it should, if that helps.

Thanks
