Emma's 172 Cup Progress Thread (Pic heavy and essay content)

Crazy what an improvement it makes. I still to this day can't understand why Renault didn't fit a smaller one as standard, the OEM one is colossal.

I know. It's one of the best things I've done to the car.

I drove the works van the other week which has the same size wheel as the Clio and it was ridiculous. How I drove round like that for 3 years I'll never know lol.

Nice looking car and the steering wheel looks good too! Makes me want o fit a smaller one to mine.

I think the exhaust is alright really, as long as it was re mounted perhaps. After you redo the calipers I reckon you should leave them alone to save any future hassle :p.

Thumbs up.

As long as this paint I bought is up to the job and doesn't melt they will be left alone.

Llandow yeh I seriously need to look into a new mount. The exhaust place I took it too on,y remounted it with a brand new mount 2 months ago maybe and it's failed already. Not good.

Lay under the car (or me?) and push the exhaust up as high as you can.

Get the biggest socket you can in the mount. I used an old spark plug socket. Cable tie the socket in place.

Works a treat and won't fail like the rubber crap.

LOL subtle as always Daniel.

Emma, noticed your camera setup. Did you get any videos of the Brands Hatch track day?

Thanks Dan.

I shall give it a go.

Im not sure how lying under you would help me get my exhaust straight lol.

Both ways you'll end up with hot useless gas fired in your general direction. Stick with the car at least that wont drop semen and sweat on you too.

Yeh I have Tim. Not posted them up though as they are quite long and YouTube changed their maximum time allowance.

Ok Dan, we can try, but I can't see how it's going to help lol.

Really nice car Emma. Love the color, almost perfect for my taste, i would only change two things, glossy black alloys and i would trash that sport antenna. Is that VHT caliper paint good?

Not used the VHT caliper paint as yet. I'll let you know how it is when I do eventually use it.

For me my wheels are the perfect colour. I'm not a huge fan of gloss black. My track wheels are matt black and it doesn't look quite right imo.

I keep meaning to change the aerial but my radio doesn't work so it's something I keep forgetting to sort out.

Good work Emma. Twas a good read.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned, it but your exhaust.... ... oh.

Its had a mention once or twice lol.

I'm not bothered really. I know its awful and I hate how it looks just as much as everyone else that has mentioned it.

I needed an exhaust fast and this was cheap and could quickly be out on the car. Didn't know about CS when I purchased.

They're/I am only joking. Horses for courses - I'm not calling you a horse btw.

Wheels look nice in that colour, but I am biased.

thats what i thought but i thought id double check. im also guessing its the 320mm and not the 350mm? was it hard to fit with the boss and how did you get pass the airbag light?

cheers, mark

Err, I'm not sure on size or how hard it was to fit the boss as Si did it for me.

It looked pretty simple though. Theres a couple of resistors put in two of the plugs to stop the airbag light coming on.

Nice write up and good pictures, close call at Oulton Park I nearly lost it at the same bend two weeks back just came in far too fast and nearly lost it going in. Personally if your going to do alot of track days I'd bin off the sub and rear bench and save the weight as you'll find the car will handle better. Just one question have you noticed alot of difference with the rear arb and what setting do you have it on?

The sub and rear seats come out on trackways anyway. I would be a bit of a lemon if I didn't take the sub out for trackdays really ;). Plus I need the room for my wheels and tools etc.

The arb is probably one of the best things I've put on the car. Especially on the track the car is a lot less lairy on the back end. I've only got it on the softer setting and yet to try the harder setting as yet buy I think it still makes a lot of difference on the softer setting.

I'm hoping Demon Tweeks get me the arb before I do Donington a week Sunday as I want to see the difference it makes to the car over last time.

Update Time!!!

So quite a bit has happened to the car recently. Mostly good, some bad :(

The bad:

I had a slight incident with a motorbike. Its safe to say I was gutted and I expected it to be written off. But thankfully £2400 of repairs later I got it back.

It needed and new bumper, headlight, foglight, splitter, arch liner, wing respray, and slam panel.

So onto the good:

This was the first thing to go on the car, (strangely the day before I crashed it), please excuse the awful socks and sandals, its not me

Yes, its a Ktec Supersports Stealth. I absolutely love it. Took a while to get it to sit correctly but my god it sounds great.

Next on the list was a service. So I treated the Cup to new front tyres, new oil, new spark plugs, new coolant and a new water pump.

The car run much smoother after the spark plug change, and my old waterpump was on its way out so a much needed service was done.

Next was detailing time, I was in a piss that morning, so there is a significant lack of photos lol

Me hard at work

My old plates had to be replaced as the front one had cracked during the accident and water had started to get in, so on went CS approved plates.

Next, my step dad was a bit thick and ordered some silvervisions for his motorbike but ordered the wrong fitment, so I stole them

Untitled by Emma_Williams, on Flickr

Bilstein B14's

Oh my god they are absolutely awesome. I think the first time I gave them some stick actually said to myself wow.

Also had the car corner weighted and set up properly by the motorsport division of Bridgwater College.

3.5 toe out at the front, 2.5 toe in at the rear

Ride heights are

Front offside - 616mm
Rear offside - 604mm
Front nearside - 620mm
Rear nearside - 598mm

Weights

Front offside - 363kg
Rear offside - 197.5kg
Front nearside - 339kg
Rear nearside - 181.5kg

Basically the car is only out by 0.3%.

Total weight of the car with me inside (56kg) and half a tank of fuel was 1080.5kg so I'm not far off the 1 tonne mark really.

Car looks great. How much did B/Water college charge? I want to get my car aligned correctly.
