Hi all new to the forums and I have been reading past threads relating to my problem. I have an 02 clio 172 that wont fire up. It turns over but wont fire in to life. The tdc sensor has been changed the fuel pump is priming I've checked the car on a clip diagnostic machine and no faults. Its even had a new battery ive even checked relays and fuses. Any help would be brilliant. Thank you in advance

Doesn't seem to be. It smells of fuel but just wont fire ive taken the tdc sensor out that was fit and gave it another cleanare the coil packs ommon for going?

Check you have a spark from all leads, if not then find out if it's the coil pack or leads.

Just got the coil pack off found it cracked along the bottom pretty much all the way around

Get a 2nd hand one, If you sign up you can check the sales section here and they come up quite often, Renault will charge a small fortune for a new one, if desperate ring a breaker on Ebay there is plenty in pieces on there or try ECP.

has the coil pack sorted it? if not it could also be an immobiliser fault which is really common on clios. Easiest thing is to remove the ecu and send it to a company called ECU Testing in heanor derby they can erase the immobiliser from the ecu and you wont have any more problems on that side of things

Its alive!!!!! All smiles now its a proper bargain only cost me 400 for the car and a coil pack for 37. Its only done 61k ordered some leads too will be here tomorrow. It definitely needs them as I got a belt off the thing. Cheers for all the help. Gonna become a fully paid up member too

Yeah thought I'd take a risk and its paid off. Needs a decent clean out and mot'ing also some standard wheels but really happy now

ive had it plugged into a renault diagnostic machine and nothings coming up fault wise. it wouldnt start at all last week had it fire up and run now it died after about 5 mins and wont start

If diag isnt reporting much useful info, i'd go see a ren specialist or pay an renault savvy auto electrican for a couple hours. The car still doesnt owe you much IMO. Good luck with it all.

spooky, i had a starting issue recently (see my other thread) it was running lumpy, then i cleaned the TB which sorted it, ran for 5 mins and then wouldn't restart - turns out that the exhaust cam timing had slipped - not saying yours is anything similar to that, just FYI.

did you have it plugged into the Renault CLIP diagnostic machine? If its not starting, it should be logging something - from what i believe CLIP will tell you that as it can delve a bit deeper (might be wrong though)

Its fired up again now sounds smooth not missing. Dare not run it now as it's fairly loud and seems to attract folk in the street. The only thing I've done is put the ecu back in the carrier and covered all the fuse box back up. Ill get the clip on it again see if its logged anything since its run it will have logged some information in the ecu. The coil pack must've been at fault as it wouldn't run at all before.

Well it's happened again warmed up died and wont start. Still no codes in the clip diagnostic.

Does it turn over or is there nothing when you turn the key?

Just turns over. Let it run until it got to temp and like before it cut out just before the temp gauge hit the middle. It then cut out and wouldn't start up again just turned over

Under the fuel injectors there is a sensor of some description going into the block and the plug is broken off by the look of it dunno what it senses

After a bit of a search, it would appear to be the knock sensor.

(I'm no mechanic though)

Gonna replace the smashed off knock sensor when I get home and see what happens. Apparently they work when the engine gets to temp which is when mine dies so touch wood its gonna help

Once its cleaned up ill get some pictures up. Its monaco blue I want some gold supert's or even standard wheels in gold. Needs coilovers so it sits nicer. Interior is spot on even the wheel is in one piece not chewed to bits

Well its still the same new knock sensor and key fired up turned it off wont fire up again. Dunno if I should try the new crank sensor even though its a new one on it

I would, plus dodgy lambda sensors can cause problems too,
did RS Tuning get back to you?

Finally it looks to be sorted changed a couple of sensors and its been running up to temp and didnt die

Taken any snaps as you've gone along? Get a project thread up and running.
Might come in handy if you opt to sell the car one day.
