Depends how you look at it tbh.

Would I want the belt to go on my way home, middle of no where, half way through doing a trackday? Nope.

It may last forever or may last a week. But for me it's not worth the risk and utter potential ball ache.

But, generally speaking, a new belt is far less likely to go than an old one, no?
For sure, should have really explained the logic behind my decision, the timing belt on the car looks very fresh, as in teeth are all there and of normal length, no cracks and is nice and tight, the Aux belt looks similar and is nicely seated on the pulley so not to alarmed with this either. If either were old looking, dry with cracks and loose then yeah I would probably change it but as its stands I'm ok with the risk versus cost of replacing.

Glad you've finally found one - pleased for you!
I can only echo what others have said about the belts as my friend learned the hard way. Purchased 172 from local garage who insisted they would replace the cambelt. Friend mentioned using the "special tools" and replacing the dephaser and the garage had "every faith" in their mechanic and that if would be done correctly. Car collected after work completed and driving home initially, all seems well... it made it 25 miles before horrendous noises.. and 25.2 miles until complete failure. Dropped a valve. My friend regretted not purchasing at a lower price without the belts, and then taking straight away to a specialist! True story - Don't want to see this happen to anyone else
