gearbox change



  2003 Clio sport 172
im changing my gearbox today and was wondering if there is a guide or anything that i need to look out for while doing it, will i need any special tools?

i have searched but cant find anything.

any help would be much appreciated, thanks

No need for special tools. Roughly: Drain box oil, take driveshafts out, remove subframe (unbolt steering rack from subframe, support engine), remove battery and gearbox mount, remove box and vice versa for assembly.

From line 4 of that guide:

"On some of my pictures you will see my engine has been removed, this guide is to change with the engine in, the pictures just make good refrence."

I did this at the weekend, i always take the engine out its easyer imo!

But i dropped the frame this weekend.

1) Get as hight as you can
2) Axccel stands and drain OIL
3) remove hub bolts for shafts
4) Remove the 13mm Nut on the steering colum to rack
5) Remove steering rods from Hub
6) Remove hub from wish bione via ball joints
7) Remove the triange supports 4 x 13mm on each side
8) Remve dog done
9) remove front box nut
10 remove gearlinkage
11) remove all four subframe bolts and wiggle out the b**ch i used a jack to help.
12) jack engine up and remove battery tray etc, all bolts holding box
13 lower the sucker down and wiggle it off,i used a old tyre to drop it on :) its not easy on ya own :)
14 smell liek cat wee all day

2 x 18mm bolts on each ball joint
driveshafts out
4 x 16mm bolts on rack
drop subframe
box out
done
