My car is due for 48,000 mile service and was wondering if changing the gearbox oil for a fully synth oil like Silkolene is advantageous... any comments? Also, how much gear oil would I need for my car?
Fully synth would withstand track-days etc... better than other stuff AFAIK.
I changed mine @ 24k for fully synth - although the stuff that came out was .
absolutely fine (despite two ring trips, two airfield days, and brands hatch)
For best protection use 5w-40 synthetic (Silkolene PRO S 5w-40 or Motul 300V 5w-40) in the engine and fully synthetic 75w-90 in the gearbox (Silkolene Syn 5 75w-90 or Motul Gear 300 75w-90).
These products are proper fully synthetics (pao/ester)
