gearbox rebuild.. bearing, seals part no's?

  340i
I can get bearings seals etc. at cost price through a company my Father deals with... So just want to price them up to see what difference in price there is/could be.

If I supply all parts the re-build will be £150 by a local transmission specialist

If I don't supply the parts the job will be "around" £350+vat

soo does anybody have a list of part numbers for the JC5-089 box?

This is what is listed under 'gearbox repair kits' accoriding to Renault.

JC Synchro Kit 7701472393 £68.37

JC Synchro Kit 7701472395 £196.59

From the looks of things there are two synchro kits varying in parts. First kit seems to be a smaller kit, and in the second a full kit (including the first kit's parts). Both of these kits include the oil seal and housing too.

JC5-089 Synchro Kit (looked up specificaly for that gearbox code) 7701467942 £83.88

This kit seems to be included in the first and second kits I listed weirdly. Doesn't seem much point in this one as it has nowhere near the amount of parts in compared to the first two kits - maybe Renault could shed some light on which kit you'll need.

Make sure you get the right kit for your box, the small and big kit for JC5-089 is not the same as for JC5-130.

Personaly I would go for the medium kit (1) as a lot of things not included in kit (3) needs to be changed when taking it apart. Make sure you have the right tools very easy to chip the 5th gearwheels if you dont use extractors specific for this task.

I am really unsure what to do with the gearbox now... Had a few different opinions from people who have listened to it!

1. mechanic friend thinks it sounds like diff bearings

2. another mechanic thinks it sounds lay shaft (SP) related

3. drive shaft / subframe alignment putting strain on the diff?

4. My dad thinks it could be general noise, maybe related to solid engine mounts?!

Really don't know what to do with it.. As I am going to drive around Europe in 16 days, the noise seems to be getting slightly worse as I drive the car daily.

The changes feel smooth and precise, as they have always been...

Just the whining which changes slightly when on and off throttle..At higher speeds it turns in "woohing" noise rather than whining :S

why not get the box apart and see what it needs, then order the appropriate kit?

kit 2 is the only one with bearings, so whether it's diff or layshaft bearings, neither of the others covers that

It is still on the car... If I can get in touch with the rebuild guy I will potentially remove it this weekend!

fancy taking mine down if i bring it to you?

i'm slightly worried a courier might damage it

Seems a very good price that. You know anyone that has had work done there before?

The Burpspeed lads (Jay+Tony) have had work done there and recommend them

My thoughts also... The way you seen most couriers throwing items around LOL!

I am not sure how I will get mine transported down there yet... Will find out before the weekend hopefully :)

pffrrtt No!

Just a standard bearing and seals replace... I am not sure what "upgrade" work can be done on these boxes

let me know what you decide bud, i can throw some petrol money your way too :D

i'd just like the peace of mind that it will get there and back in one piece

I would have thought the gearbox specialist would know what needs replacing, once he has it apart and can source the parts through the trade, can't work out more expensive in the end, can it.

 w'eally? Its a big lump of greasy smelly metal LOL!?

Yeh mate no bother for me. I can get a shite load of bubble wrap for free so its just a case of wrapping it up and fastening it down.

fancy taking 2? :D

there's money in it ;)

If I end up taking Grays I dont' see why I couldn't take yours with you being pretty close.

If I can fit two in the back of a stripped clio that is.

Reference your noise, have you changed/checked the gearbox oil lately?
Yes he has mate.

We had the box off literally a month ago and changed all the clutch/seal thing (im not very technical).

Changed all the box oil and he's re checked it other day and its not lost any.
