Help Replacing Rear Bearing

  Clio 1.2 16V
Hi does anyone have an Idea how I would go about Replacing a rear bearing on a 1.2 clio?

Or do you think I should just take it to a garage instead?

Cheers

Wont I need a proper press or special tool for removing them and replacing them without damaging?

u can do it without a press (more chance of damaging) but its much easier with a press, im jst saying that coz i have one though :p

If you dont have access to a press then leave it to a mechanic with the right equipment. Its not going to cost a fortune to do.

you could always save a few bob and take the hub off yourself and just get a garage to press old bearing out and press new one in. some garages wont do it but you may strike lucky. its easy enough to do remove and refit hub yourself if you have a clue what youre doing with the spanners

Looks like ill get a mechanic 2 do it. Cheers guys, you reckon i should buy the parts myself, rather than let the garage get them in? Just thinking money wise.

what makes it so hard/different to do it on a clio/sport? I replaced the rear wheel bearings in my brother ford escort 2 weeks ago to get it through the mot. Theres 2 bearings in each rear hub on his car, i used a hammer and punch to remove the old/worn bearings and a socket the same size as the outer race and a hammer to fit the new bearings in, job done, mot passsed...going to use same principle on the bearings on my 172 unless someone has done them and they aint that straight forward?

you could easily damage the new bearing my using a hammer and is much safer and better practice to use the correct equipment, in this case a hydraulic press

I have access to a hydraulic press in work, so will use that when i find which bearing has gone, it could well be a front bearing? I just wanted to know that there isnt anything nasty needed doing when i have the hub off, as i have read on here about people not being able to do it them selves for some reason or other....
