Help with symbol on camera screen - Nikon Coolpix

One of my Bosses has just come in with his camera, and asked what a symbol on the screen means.

Basically, on the screen there is a red box with a hand in it that flashes. I thought it was to tell you to hold it still, but it carries on flashing when put down on a table.

Can anyone with a similar camera tell me what it is. His wife told him it meant low battery, but there's a battery indicator for that.

Are you sure its a HAND, sounds like the battery flat warning to me.

Just guessing here, but could it mean that the flash isn't on?

Tried for an hour, gave up.

I worked it out, it's to say the flash wasn't on. Ha.

i used to have a nikon and iirc it was when it hadn't been able to focus in...

Yup its the camera-shake icon.

Oh, god knows then. It disappeared when I put the flash onto Auto?

Well it's not my camera lol. And my boss won't have a clue either.
