Thats not a shagged dephaser is it? Hard to tell but it sounds like a tracktor which is usually the sound of a shagged dephaser. Get on youtube and search on clio dephaser see if the examples sound like yours.
If it is a dephaser (cant believe how may times i've types the word dephaser) it should make a sort of crunchy noise as you rock the revs back and forth over the 2k rev mark

Thanks jbc27 mine does sound like that but don't think it makes that noise when I rev it like that. I think it is the dephaser but I also get a loud sort of tinny tapping noise that's the bit that gets on my nurves so have to turn the music up so I don't hear it. But would love to get it sorted then I would be happy =D

Get it to a garage mate. There's a decent renault place in gloucester http://www.tradensave.net/ take it in there and i'd imagine one of their lads will be able to diagnose it quickly enough.
If it's your dephaser then thats a belts off job to sort and even if it's not the dephaser there's clearly something wrong so you'd be best to take it to a garage and get them to tell you what it is and how much they'd want to fix it. You can then decide whether to have the work done.

Went down today he said nothing much wrong they are old cars now. so has a bit of wear and that I have to give it a oil flush and use decent oil and filter. and to get dephaser and belts done
