High level brake light question.

This maybe a stupid question, I've just changed the side/brake lights to SMD's and I've noticed the high level brake light is on along with the sides. Is this normal? I thought the high level only came on when the brakes are applied? My question, is the high level brake light supposed to do side as well as brake?

No problems, I've not used smd's personally but I have heard the stories of them affecting lights on certain cars

It was so strange, it was dipped and was getting brighter when the brakes were applied. All sorted back to stock now. Thanks again bud.
