I don’t Understand!

Rennault Clio 1.4 16v Alize

Renault Clio 1.4 16v Etoile

Renault Clio 1.4 16v Si

BHP: 102
Top Speed: 108

How is the bottom one slower if it has greater BHP? I dont get it!

i mean the 1.2 16v dusts the cup ;) (Yoz vs Fred)

no need to spend all that extra money on the 1.4 16v

Fair enough.

But our 1.2s have reached 127 indicated(120mph via gps)

and they do 0-60 in 12 secs.

and thats without tuning.

plus the weight advantage 930kgs vs 1000kgs

Personaly i think the 1.2 16v is a better buy

I used to have the 1.4 16v Alize, and can confirm that it does feel quicker than the current 1.2 16v

in that case the 1.4 must be able to quicker 0-60 as well! everyone knows that the 0-60 times are slower than they actually are. i bet you were going downhill with wind behind doing 129?

no, on the flat if i remember correctly. On the m23, north bound. Pissed me off that my friends kept calling it nippy i hate that word.

forget 0-60 between the 1.2 and 1.4. think going from 40+ the 1.4 would leave the 1.2 behind with ease. and ud never get over 120 out of a 1.4 really just sh*t accuracy clocks. remember a 1.8 16v is booked at 127

well 120mph on GPS is a bloody reliable source

and the 1.2 16v gearbox maximum speed according to renaults figures is 124.8mph

i agree ....
after watching bambams 0-100 video the 30-70 time of the 1.2 is ~12 secs
i did some experiments in my 1.4 16v and the 30-70 is just over 9

The fact to consider is that the 1.4 is still sh*t slow, but costs more to run, less tuning parts and the insurance group jumps a few places higher. I wouldnt even get a 1.6, i agree with CAR magazine, only ones that make sense are the 1.216v and Sport models.

"The fact to consider is that"

1. "the 1.4 is still sh*t slow"

agreee but its still quicker than the 1.2

2. "but costs more to run"

a few less mpgs, service & everything else is the same, so negligible

3. "less tuning parts"

hmm, maybe agree on this one, there are parts available though
but its only £400 more than the 1.2 list price
and id like to see £400 spent on a 1.2 that achieves the 23bhp difference

4. "insurance group jumps a few places higher"

group 5, over group 3.
not exactly earth shattering increases
although i got free insurance on my 1.4 anyhow, hence why i got it over the 1.2

rob....mate....at the moment i have a 1.2. i want something quicker hence the 1.4. insurance for 1.6 is too much. comprende??

whats the point!

why dont u just stick with the 1.2 and save up money and no claims until u can get a 172

u will barely notice the diffrence between a 1.4 and 1.2 and can keep up with my mates 1.6 up to a certain point.

Rob - I dont have NCB but I have pass plus.
G_Man : Is you a bit tick? I would have to be about 25 to get insured in a 172! Geez man please...how will i not notice the difference - i have a 1.2 8v!!! im getting a 1.4 16v!! they are 4 seconds quicker 0-60!?!

The cost differecne bettween a 1.2 and 1.4 arnt going to be much when I had a 1.4 it cost the same to fill with fuel as the 1.2 (I hammered them both the 1.2 more so). Both cars have 18k servicing and insurance shoudnt be to different.

The 1.4 was quicker especially higher up the revs and whereas the 1.2 stoped at 100 on the clock the 1.4 was still accelerating slowly at 120.

When the cars are moving the 1.2 will allways loose by a significant margin (assume both cars need about 8hp to conteract rolling resistance then the 1.4 has 37% more power which is a significant amount.

The 1.6 isnt as good as value as it only gets 10% more power and weight quite a lot more.
