Insurance renewal time

  172
Just been quote £870 for another 10 months with admiral... i know its a group 16 car but im a bit dissapointed at that price as its only £15 cheaper than last year.

Im 27 next month, been driving for 8 or 9 years, have 3 years no claims (never had an accident) and i have 3 points for speeding roughly two years ago.

Its a none modded 52reg clio 172.
Kept in garage over night and i do 10000-12000 anual miles.
Oh and im fully comp on domestic/one place of work cover.

Anyone else pay this kinda money at my age?
Or anyone know of an insurers worth trying?

Hi R Jay,

I was in a similar situation this time last month and I was with Norwich Union.

Now gone to Adrian Flux, some say some bad stories about them but others swear by them.

I am 30 and I've now got £480 with my girl friend included. I've got 3 yrs no claims, 3 points and Norwich offered me £890.

Defo worth doing a months shopping around. Virgin online was pretty competitive if you want a big high street name though!

put all your details in once and it will give you over 30 different quotes, definitely worth checking out before you renew with your existing insurer

"Just been quote £870 for another 10 months with admiral"

this is a "Bonus Accelerator" if you do with admiral other insurers wont see it as a full 1 year no claims, so you will be stuck with admiral, who will only offer you limited reductions.

they send you a proof of no claims with the full 1/2/3/4 however many years on it.

other insurers are none the wiser. just done it.

unless you live in manchester 16, then you can naff off. :approve:
Unfortunatley This is correct (well apart from the naff off part ;))

We are looking for a replacement underwriter to enable us to quote Manchester as both our main modified vehicle insurance companies wont offer quotes there at present.

Being a broker we are always trying to imporve our schemes and open up more criteria. Obviously we hate having to turn away good business

Check the small print underneath, mine said "gained over 1year 08 months" other insurers (not all) will adjust accordingly, so the premium wont be as little if you would have 2 years NCB.

I am definitely considering switching back to Greenlight for my 172 this year (quotes permitting), the only reason I am not with them now was that when I renewed I could not protect 4 yrs no claims (with Admiral I could). I felt it was worth switching even though it cost me more for the year.

Get a quote off elephant online, and if its cheaper then get back to Admiral and tell them to knock the price down even more. They WILL be able to give you a discount. Heres my scenario:

Admiral premium last yr: 900
Renewal premium this yr: 925
Rang up and told them I wanted the new customer and online discount: 850
Increased annual mileage to 10k from 5k: 887
Quote from Elephant with same details: 853
Rang Admiral again: 812

It can be done, jsut be polite and persuasive. If you have a clean record then tell them and tell them that you'd rather stay with them than go elsewhere as your happy with the service but you want them to reduce the premium in line with other insurers.

Edit: forgot to mention, Elephant is Admiral's sister company who incidentally rang me back today and rduced their quote from 853 to 816 lol. I decided to stay with Admiral anyhow.

We can offer protected NCB to driver 22 and over provided they have max ncb (5 years)

In most cases we can add this benefit free of charge for club/forum members.

nice one neil,

your guys at greenlight just quoted me £497 ;) for 12 months rather than the £850 admiral quoted me for another 10months... ill be recommend your guys from now on mate.

i tried all the big insurers/searchs (admiral, vigin, flux, directline, norwich, autotrader, its4me, confussed, etc) and the closest anyone got was adrian flux at £720.
