Ktec Exhaust Woes

  Bumder With A Buffer
Recently I got rid of my Yozza system in exchange for Greeney's Ktec Stealth exhaust (the mild steal version)

Garage did a swap over for us but the Ktec one on mine isnt sitting right IMO. Pics..

I occasionally scrape if I go over speed bumps at any speed other then crawling.

Now my rear exhaust hanger is shot and that is due to be replaced once I get a chance but shouldnt the whole system sit up a bit higher???

The mid section seems to sit a lot lower and I notice there is a slight angle on the cat itself (you should see that on the pics).

i've got the same system, and middle section does hang fairly low - will get some photos. You can use the socket set fix on the rear hanger which will lift it up considerably.

Aye im gonna use the socket piece once I replace the old shitty hangar!

So your middle section is low too??

I remember Dan telling me that when he had it fitted he had issues as well but they were doing ti wrong and rung K-tec for advice. Something about twisting it or some bullocks.

The yozza mid section never sat down that low :(

I had some hose cable tied under mine and it lifted it up nicely

It's probably better if you've got a spare socket like above though (i think i needed about 6 bits of hose to lift it up enough)

I have some pipe in there already from when I had the yozza on and wanted to lift that up a bit.

But the whole system from mid section seems to be sitting quite a way down from the car. The yozza and my old magnex used to be pushed up into the recess part (where the exhaust runs) whilst this one seems I can get my hands in the gap it has. (if you get what I mean)

I had the same issues and ended up taking it back to ktec for a proper fitting.

I changed the rear hanger and it helped but still sat like yours. theres a midpoint hanger between the rear axle and mid-box which needs adjustment. adjusting that SHOULD remedy the problem

It also wont help that the Ktec system is heavier than the Yozza. So that alone will mean it will sit lower. My middle hanger seems to last 6months if im lucky before turning to cheese. From what i can gather my Ktec is basically supported by the cat join at the front and my rear hanger that ive bodged as seen above. No support from the middle really :(

The rear should be sorted as I know the hangar is fine.

Suppose Il have to live with the mid section being low...Im just worried as some entrances to car parks round here have those stupid things in the middle that let you go in/not out. I can see the middle section twating that!

Tooo loud for everyday driving. I do 300 odd miles a week and it was horrible :(

In a way I wish I didnt get rid but meh.

also used to wake the whole estate up in the mornings!! :)

Sorry to thread crash but is that some sort of aftermarket seat where your spring sits on the axle? (the black bit that goes up to the height of the 2nd coil)

Mines just like the top part, a rubber moulding. That looks a far better and safer fit for the spring.

Is it part of the suspension kit?

Richy22 -The orientation is all to co*k on that exhaust. This is quite often caused by a worn Manifold/Cat gasket kit, making the cat sit at the bottom of its travel and starting the road to ruin right there.

Replace that and the cat will seal much higher, then twist the centre up into position, tighten the centre clamp, this does support the centre in it's entirity. With this up nice and high, twist the rear box up out of sight and tighten the band clamp. Hey presto, all done.

Cheers...Im guessing thats what Dan had done when they fitted this originally.

What happens if the manifold/Cat gasket isnt replaced??? You mentioned a "road to ruin"????

They be coilovers so that is the adjusting ring that the spring sits on to enable you to adjust the height.

My stainless steel KTEC sits a bit like that, I've sorted the rear out with a lot of string and it's not very noticeable last time I looked, but the centre does sit low, a lot of time had been spent trying to adjust it but it does scrape on the occasional speed bump or where elevations become level like carparks and driveways, so I just go SLOW and take it at a bit of an angle.

I bought an exhaust hanger from here http://www.autocarparts4u.co.uk/product.php?id_product=11, was worse than the old broken renault one! Becareful which ones you buy.

What's this about the Manifold/Cat gasket kit?

Ah right.

Thought with coilovers it was coil over shock. Maybe different kinds have different ways.

Aye but this is a Renault and they have the rear beam set-up..so you have a shock and the spring mounted on the rear beam.

Guy at works Scooby is like what your describing (springs over shocks) on both front and rear.

I still cannot believe that after all this time of people "bodging" exhaust hangers that there isnt a reinforced version available for sale. The rear hanger fair enough its very easy to remedy but the middle hanger is just a block of rubber that wears very fast :(

AST's run coil over shock just found. Maybe its just the top end stuff :S

Despite several places having a look, my ktec never sat correctly. When it came off, I could see why, fooking heavy.

Dont bother buying the Ktec kit. Its just overpriced nuts+bolts and a gasket. Just get your local to put a new gasket in and push the join up when they tighten it up. Cable tie round the middle joint if you want extra support. It worked fine on mine...

I fitted a new Mani-cat gasket kit and it stopped the exhaust hitting the subframe!

  coiled 'berg
had 'issues' with mine, was hanging very low, changed both brackets, still was low, cut 1 1/2" from the middle section to stop the back box banging on the rear slam panel thing!, now its still hanging really low in the middle, scrapes over everything! tried twisting it all sorts of ways, cant get it to fit tidy! oh well.

My mates ktec system hung mega low in the centre and would scrape over every speed bump, i got underneath to sort it for him. Basically i loosened all the joins jacked up the centre section as high as poss, re-tightened everything and adjusted the centre hanger to the point it was almost fully stretched, now it sits perfect.

22 notes for a gasket set! What a joke!

I took the original gasket to an exhaust specialist/supplier and got a new one for 2 pounds.
