Laptop - Kill?

Ive got an old laptop that my sister had about 10 years ago! (Dell something or other). how can i "kill" it without physically damaging it and smashing the hard drive. I don't want any of the data to be read and to be honest im more interested in finding out if theres a way i can feck it up with a hammer.

Any ideas? Someone said Microwave without the battery, But science wasnt my best subject at school so I don't know if that'll work (Without exploding the kitchen

Hammer until you hear the HDD ping and it rattles.
