And then some engine performance mods last

I want to have the drivers seats as far back as poss which will mean i need to reposition the gear shifter and extend the steering column, anyone have any ideas ?
For the the gear shifter, i was thinking of just extending the selector rods.
For the steering column, will a large steering wheel boss work ?

Removed the ABS pumb and steering rack today. Bought myself a EPAS column with ECU for a bargain price of £25. Also got a wiring and controller kit. Going to block up the pipes on the rack.
Also started to remove the horrible tar from inside the car.

Not wanting to burst your bubble, you have bought the lower part of the column too haven't you?

The electric columns split down but sport/hydraulic ones don't, I found this out the hard way at the beginning of the year :(

I do like the way you're going with this, and very jealous at the amount of space you seem to have to work in, I wish I still had plenty of indoor space, it's certainly not as fun working out on the driveway

Sorry

It is still a bargain mind, as long as you can find the lower bit cheap enough

It was my birthday yesterday and i got some Sealey AS3000 axle stands:
  • Capacity Each: 2.5tonne
  • Capacity Pair: 5tonne
  • Minimum Height: 475mm
  • Maximum Height: 700mm
Giving me plenty of room under the car now.

I did say it was a long term track car project didn't I ?! 😂
Finally got my large 1m x 1m drip tray so that i could clean the engine bay and wheel arches. Hasn't come out too bad. Need some touching up in places and i'll be stone chipping the wheel arches.

Starting mocking up the driving position, seat, steering wheel and pedals. Until the engine and box are back in, i can't judge whether i'll need to move the shifter back. I'll be getting a PMS short shifter but i don't know if that changes it current position and throw.

Last update of the year......
Got some bits back from the sandblaster and powder coating:

So the engine bay, particularly on the left side was looking a bit battered. I decided i would give it a rub down and paint along with painting the scuttle bit where there was sound deadening. I also decided to Stonechip the wheel arches.

I'm very pleased how it came out considering it was pretty cold and i was using rattle cans. I did slightly warm up the metal work with a heat gun so it adhered better.

I've also cleaned up and painted the DCI rack. Got new inner tie rods, boots and track rod ends to fit to it.

Fitted black series ARB bushes.
Fitted DCI steering rack with new inner tie rods, new boots and new track rod ends.

All that work to throw the heater back in, buy a small one or heated wind screen especially if its a dedicated track car.
