mother k-o's my monaco :(

  Monaco RS Clio 172
hi

well today is officially one of the most heartbreaking days of my life.

last night, my mother had use of my car, and while it was p1ssing down, she managed to go thru a hedge down some lanes, and into a field.

car has been recovered by myself. had to cut thru the wire fence on the field, use her car to pull it out because it was stuck in the mud.

I drove it home, and, suffice to say it looks like it's worth about 4 quid now.

the damage is not "appearing" to be as bad as it first seemed.

I hate the threads where people say "car crashed how much to fix it" when there is no pictures and I am the same here. I only just got it home so pics tomorrow or whenever I can get hold of a camera.

basically I am curious for all your knowledge on how much each of these items would cost.

it definately needs (from what I have seen today/tonight - proper inspection first thing in the day light) :-

front bumper - believe the grills are intact, lost the number plate too, fogs are definately dead and arch liners look to be dead too

left/right front fogs w/ surrounds

arch liners

new bonnett or the dent I can see pulled out.. will need pics to show this but basically it looks like a baseball bat hit it "quite" hard

somehow yet another "baseball bat" looking dent right on the renault sport badge on the BOOT

... :(

2nd hand prices would be cool just a rough guide also it is monaco blue as the title says so is this pricey to match and get parts sprayed?

no idea how bad the sides of the car are with regards to dents and or scratches. bound tobe loads. it is CAKED in mud at the mo so it was very hard to tell.

the horn does not sound happy either.

when I drove it, I noticed -NOTHING- wrong with it. drove straight and true, no pulling no knocking, did a good 25 miles at slow to moderate speeds and it seems absolutely fine... very strange. to have jumped, landed, and not killed wish bones / suspension / joints??

again needs a proper look.

anyone know of a decent body shop near edenbridge in kent aswell?

sorry for the essay but once again folks a word of warning

do not let your mother borrow your vehicle

and yes, she was only third party on it, because she is not the main driver I am and no I could not have said I was driving as I was nowhere near at the time :(

just cannot put my feelings into words. I'm not here for sympathy so I won't harp on.

we've all been there. the car is my pride and joy and everything I work for these days.

right ontop of christmas.

I read these threads, this time of year is cup killing season, well mine isn't a cup but I guess I finally see those words come true!

just wish i was more of an a-hole and trusted noone with my pride and joy now :(

I can see where you are coming from but i have to ask, has your mum offered to cover the repairs ?

  Monaco RS Clio 172
she is not in a financial position to. she is full time, looking after my brother who is only 4. she works part time. I can see this is killing her even more than it is me so until such times she can afford it I am going to have to do what I can. I just need it legal.

the police have told me that the bumper has too many sharp edges to drive it on the road, they only allowed me to drive it home. also has no front number plate and I have no idea what has happened to the horn.

staggered by the damage a few branches can do.

  Monaco RS Clio 172
I would really of loved to say it was me.. but she had some witnesses and she proceeded to phone the police out of sheer panic

she is someone who has been driving more than 20 years and not once had an accident so you can imagine how destraught she is especially it being my pride and joy

she just didn't think. I have no idea what actually happened you know. she says she just came round the corner, and as she pressed the accelerator, it just understeered straight into the bush... she has hit it, flattened a barbed wire fence and posts, then landed some 3 foot down and smashed her head off the roof.. it is a nightmare.

I just have never been in this situation before like, no idea how to get it tested on a jig to make sure nothing got bent.. only my own judgement that it drives -exactly- like it did before the crash.

she also said the abs went crazy when she did eventually brake, but the traction control that was switched ON, did absolutely nothing.. just sounds like too much speed or greasy road.. typical understeer. keep thinking she mustve been really having it to have done that in that car because it is so decent when it comes to handling. so many questions but what is is. just gotta try find some 2nd hand bumper and other parts now.

I did a search and found that the prices vary so much.. just wondered if at the moment they would be high low.. the scrappies round here have nothing but old fiestas and escorts! :(

Bad news mate, Althought i would be screwing at my mum. I would be so happy shes not hurt.

Get it back on the road like you said. It will all get sorted in the end.

Hope it all works out.

sell it?.. in that state?

thing is it's full service history and I got all the belts done recently.. spent a fortune on new tyres getting it all upto typical perfectionist scratch.

I paid 4650 for it and have spent at least 1k on it so far. no chance of getting it back even in good condition I know but like this I doubt it's worth more than half that.

so can't go doing that. plus I'd only sell to buy another one as I love it to pieces.

traction control on clios isnt worth a balloon mate, i learned that tonight but not in a bad way

good thing is your mum is ok and car can be fixed

  Ph1.2 / VW Polo
sure your crushed mate
but i bet once its either fixed or you got something new you'll look back and just be glad your moms ok.

by then you wont be so gutted bout your car and see how it could of been much worse.

Cant see how traction control could have helped her. Does your 172 have ESP? If it was a frontal impact then that would not have helped either.

Sounds like she was going to quick for a corner and breaked as she was going round the corner.

End of the day a car can be fixed just glad your mum is ok.

No! I hate seeing a RS down, but even worse if its a Monaco.

First things first, glad your Mum is ok. Could have ended much worse if had rolled or hit something hard.

Normally there are bumpers going in the for sale section or ebay like the Dr spotted out. Plates not expensive. Then just get done as much as money lets you bit by bit. Better to have it done bit by bit over the next few months so that it looks good than a half arsed job done cheap. Can't really help with prices as I've just got mine, sorry dude.

Just have to think of the positives in this situation dude. Things could have been a lot worse, you're Mum could have been hurt or the car could have mechanically damaged or even a write off. I'd get it round to a mechanics when you can to check it out though.

No way! :(

Glad your mum's ok, the car can be sorted or at worst case scenario replaced - gutting though :dapprove:

Gutted for you mate. You sound like a good guy not going mad at your mum though. Tbh I'm the only one who drives my car, simply because if I bin it then its my own fault. If my mum drove it and crashed it and I lost my ncb etc.

Hope its all sorted quick.

I got a front bumper, wing, headlight painted and fitted for £570 last year. Although the laquer on the bumper failed and cracked and the guy went busy before he re did it the cnut.

Really really sorry to hear that mate, you must be gutted, but at least shes ok

mums + fast driving = disaster tbh,

how the last Renault in my family met its maker, she got away without a scratch, blamed it on a puddle lol even though for some reason the dial was stuck on 82 minstrels per hour!!

needless to say she wont be driving my car..ever

yep had a look today

no scratches down the side, maybe some tiny parking like dents, but not visible unless you really split it

so just need to get the dent out of the boot

new arch liners

new front bumper

new bonnet (can't see it being save-able)

oh and there's a nasty scratch on the rear bumper and small crack in the side skirt on the passenger side so that will need some tlc too I guess

anyone any idea how much the bonnets gonna cost to get a new one and have it sprayed in monaco?

Agree with daniel about mums being worth ten trillion cars.

Damage doesn't sound too bad though. Reckon with a bit of searching you could get it all sorted for £500-£600 including painting...

thanks for the help guys (links) and ideas/suggestions

as I said I washed it down so it doesn't look -as- bad now but it is a state from the front.

hoping to get it sorted asap but with mfi going bust too and all our jobs being cancelled this christmas truely is going to be the worst one yet lol

mum is ok guys.. no injuries. mostly mental. she is very very shook up.. she says, she was almost sure it was gonna roll and she saw her life go before her etc bare in mind she has not been in a crash before.. also as it landed, no idea from what height, I'd guess at a couple of feet, she did bang her head on the ceiling.

fortunately she is short like me so it wasn't too much of a thump

gonna get a new plate and just swallow the embarassment and drive it how it is so I can get some work done to pay for it

it is truely embarassing tho as it was mint and I look young so you can almost read on peoples faces 'too young for that car thats what happened its too fast for him' ...
