My Arctic Monkey's - 172 Cup & 182 Tubby

Managed to get the Cup in for some paint work on the bumper and organised the dent man to get both lots of door dings out. She is going to have a full machine polish too, hoping to bring the sparkle back!

I am sure this will divide opinions on here but have decided to rob the interior out of the 182T (sorry Tom) and fit it in the Cup. Will also pinch the wheels for a while so I can send the cup wheels off for a refurbishment. I am thinking Silver will pop but not sure if anthracite will give it a bit of "..je ne sais quoi.."

If it's a track car, I'd be gutting it. Rip all that plastic out

Remember the adaptronic is under the glovebox if you do. Im looking forward to any clioturbo hidden surprises when it gets ripped apart.

Have removed it for the time being and will be relocated.
To be honest @Mr. Plums me and my mates feel sorry for you as we feel you were ripped off big time mate. The build quality is shocking, we have found bodge after bodge. Once I have the head off will post what is hiding internally :astonished:

I know mate but you live and learn i suppose 😧

People were saying he was great when i was asking around for getting it done, then his reputation went drastically down hill.

I spent a fortune on it, but im glad its gone to someone thats going to get it done properly, and turn it into the car that i origionally intended it to be

Cups should have cup interiors or no interiors but I’m a purist.
If the rest of the car is being modified I don't see the issue. I'd hate to have to live with something that didn't look great or work well just to keep it oem

Bores don't look too bad, hatching is still visable but there was slight markings on the thrust side on all four.

Not much to worry about valve wise, all seems good. It does look like there has been some pick up on the inlet journal so will need a new cam but will worry about that later. (Forgot to snap it, will do tomoz)

Pistons are showing valve damage buuut obviously not the current set. Can't remember if they were new pistons when it was first built at ClioTurbo I'm sure I saw used on an old invoice but will double check. Not a problem as they are getting binned.

  A special one.
Nice work so far, add a set of supertech valves to the list. These engines do love to drop the odd valve.

Quick progress mate, when i did the compression test it was cyl 1 and 4 that were sightly lower, unless my mates tester was dodgy, ha.

Maybe @bloke could identify the pistons, as above i paid for megane ones so it would be nice to know I got what i paid for.

Keep up the good work mate, its weird seeing my old car in bits.

I only had the box opened up and checked about 3 months a go, they said it was a good one and replaced the selector seal and fitted high tensile diff bolts, and my mechanic said the clutch looked fine, just a bit worn in certain areas.

thanks mate
Clutch might have looked alright when they looked at it but its def heavily worn now and needs a new one. (Would change as a matter of course anyway whilst all stripped down)
Will open the box and have a butchers at some point. Can see that there is some modification from the outside (plate bolted over internal driveshaft circlip to keep it located - heard this is a weak point on this box) will snap and post when I do

  dan's cast offs.
yup, meg pistons.

dead cheap to get the clutch plate done at helix.

re the vag box conversion you can either do 02m, 6 speed hydraulic or i'm toying with 02j 5 speed cable clutch. sqs do a 6 speed conversion for the 02j. price of bits for the vag boxes are so much cheaper than the renault bits, place in the states do a diff for around £250!!!!

Thanks for that, great info and will look into it and let you know which way I go with it!

Been showing the Cup some love today.

Bye bye tabacco stained fogs, looks some much fresher!

Wheels still need a refurb and that'll be next week now. Sure my colour choice will not please some on here, lol.

Dephaser pulley, all belts, driveshaft, new alternator and a full service will be the order of the day tomorrow for her
