it sounds great, they should of came from thr factory sounding like this! it is knocking on my subframe however so im going to invest in a new lower dogbone mount and hopefully that will cure the problem, i might even try and machine my own mount, we'll see.

and the finally this morning i decided to pinch the silvervisions out of the old car...

Hi mate, nice 197!

Regarding your manifold.

If you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for the toyosport?

Was it just a straight swap?

Did you do it or pay someone else to do it?

Thanks,

Lee

Yes it is a toyosports mate, I payed £230 for it and I'm pretty pleased with it so far! Few people on the 197 forums have them as well and they seem to be pleased with it.

Yes its a straight swap, although it knocks the subframe unless you put a new lower gearbox mount in or put a small 5-10mm notch in the subframe.

I played someone else to do it as I didn't have any stands or a jack, tbh I'm glad I didn't do it, doesn't seem a difficult job ( disconnect steering pinch bolt, disconnect battery, undo tie rod ends, abs etc and then put a jack under the sub frame undo the bolts then slowly lower it down and you can created just enough space to get the Mani in) its just takes a while (took around 4-5 hours and the guy helping works for pyro racr team on clio cups, also a few of the bolts can be quite stubborn, I had to replace on of my drop links because they seem to be made of monkey metal and the Allen key stripped it.

Yeah thanks me, thanks mate! Will you be following the 'euro' look with the GW or is it going to be a totally different style?

differebt style, in had my stanced/show ish car, I had a drift car, and ill probably make this one a bit more track orientated and get some track days booked soon

the video isn't great, in person it pops and crakkles more/louder.

The manifold was knocking of my subframe a lot thanks to worn engine mounts so i replaced my upper torque bar and lower mount with powerflex black series bushings and inserts
IMG_20140726_100237_zpstsyxp4yx.jpg

They are supposedly meant for track but i thought they will be fine on the road, there is a bit of vibration through the dash on startup and when pulling away or reversing but its nothing i cant live with... but then i used to have a e36 with a welded diff and i never thought that was too bad either so the vibration would probably drive some people mad.

met up with billyfahey and we gave the cars a clean..

Been mega busy with work lately but heres a few updates...

picked these up last week ... they are simos topmounts... just need to order some coilovers now, should probably happen in the next month or two, think i will go with spax as i had them on my last car and they were brilliant and the few reviews on here suggest they are good too.

and then i sprayed the spare speedling white because i thought it would look pretty mean...

love it personally, just highlighted the need for lows and spacers even more but should it look good when it happens..

just have one wheel left to do tomorrow.

  GW 197 cup
Thanks! .. i weren't a fan of white cars until i seen this! manifold is a toyosports mani, i got it from ebay for about £230 if i remember correctly, its been pretty decent and had no issues with it so far, aside from it hitting the subframe but that was due to worn mounts, i replaced them with powerflex black series which eliminated the knocking.

all assembled with simos top mounts ready to be fitted, hopefully over the weekend, if not next weekend.

All fitted and cleaned over the weekend, may go a tad lower next weekend depending on how it settles.

A few weeks ago i had the car set up by Sean at jade developments and they done a fantastic job, handles beautifully and far better than standard.. we discussed how often i will be on track and the fact its still a daily and i left with it sitting like so.

IMG_20141117_173604_zps8kozar10.jpg

it has about 20mm of rake, the rears have been shimmed to give it neutral toe with a bit of camber and then it was corner weighted.
pic_20141111_173358_zpstsapcn4p.jpg

desperately needs spacers now but i dont want to ruin the handling :/.. hmm.

however im pretty chuffed with this.. £5 and £15 delivery is a bit of a bargain.

The Clio has had a few treats since my last update,
New callipers, feroddo ds2500 pads, new discs, braided lines and fuch fluid.
New Clio 200 gearbox as my old box completely destroyed itself by sh*tting a synchro 4 days before it was booked in to be rebuilt.
Usual service bits and bobs, new pencil coils, cambelt, oil etc etc
Battery is now located in the boot

Which made way for the v6 box

Scorpion resonated decat exhaust

i have probably missed a few bits but I will update again soon.on the worse note, my spax shock blew and leaked it's gas and oil, spax want a ridiculous amount for a new shock and jjc are taking forever to arrange an inspection under warranty, the result is I am now going to look for different coilovers.

But that's all for now.

  Red 197
How does the exhaust sound? I'm currently looking for one, don't want anything to loud though. Car looks nice and tidy mate

thanks mate, sounds great, lots of pops and bangs but it is pretty loud considering it is the resonated system, i do have a toyosports decat mani and decat pipe as well so it would be quieter with both cats still in

Hahaa sounds good mate
thanks!

baldock bypass?
Yes, went to a meet in royston but it was pretty boring, few nice renaults and a lovely twin turbo supra though! this was on the way back to bedford

Since putting the ToyoSport manifold on, do you need to remap the car ?
manifold was the first part on the exhaust i changed, there was a slight increase in the flat spot but nothing too bad, it would definetly benefit form a remap though, its one of the next things on my list

  GW 197 cup
So, i haven't posted in a while, mainly because I've been busy and not a lot has changed with the car. I had a slight issue with my clutch pipe randomly popping of the slave cylinder so i ended up with a mixture of brake fluids and probably moisture in the system giving me a crappy feeling pedal, me and a friend manage to buy some motul rbf 660 of ebay for around £10-11 a bottle which was a bargain, the lines were flushed completely and fluid replaced.
804AC801-0583-4D94-9CE4-D9170ABA44E9_zpsqdsdloh4.jpg

i then picked up 3 second hand speedline to add to my spare wheel to make a omplete set for track days, also won some used r888-r on ebay for reasonable money. Not to bothered about the different colours as theya re only for track, ill paint them when i can be bothered but im not sure what colour to go.
2CD96925-8F4F-4EFC-A90B-BF6C973D13A3_zpsod1mnuqt.jpg

I also replaced my gearbox mount with a powerflex black insert, when i installed it the lower half of the stock mount had fallen to pieces so that was well needed.

I made a last minute decision attend french car show for my first time, i managed to get on the CSOC stand and got hold of a 20 minute session with them, this is only my second track day, first time pushing the car in the dry and my first time at combe, i was supposed to be taking it easy (the guy in briefing scared me a little with his crash statistics), but the track was too much fun and found myself pushing a bit, i wish i had more time on track, the car was fantastic and so was the track!

Heres a few of the pics i found on fb.

and a bit of onboard footage. Ignore me fiddling with my chin strap and wiping my hands, it was really hot in the car and my chin strap was irritating me lol. looks so stupid on video but nvm. I'm not sure how to embed videos so ill just post a link to youtube.

Thats all for now, booked on for a snetterton evening session on the 22nd so looking forward to that now. can't wait.

  GW 197 cup
So unfortunately on my last track day at snetterton we weren't allowed helmet mounted cameras, I didn't want to waste time trying to mount the go pro so I didn't get any footage. On that session I was struggling to stay in the seat so I decided it was time to get a bucket seat and take things a bit more serious.

Since my last post I've started to strip the car, pretty much everything from the driver seat back has been removed including sound deadening, I've also fitted a cobra Suzuka with a Sabelt harness and the front will be getting stripped eventually too. I'm also trying to save for a cage but progress is slow as I'm at uni.

I done another evening at snetterton this Thursday (11/08/16), since stripping some weight out of the back the car is a lot more twitchy but I feel it was a good thing, turn in is much better, I didn't struggle with understeer as much and the r888r didn't go off anywhere near as quickly. This time I ran the rear tyres at a higher pressure as per jade developments suggestion. The higher pressures at the back and lighter rear end definitely had a positive impact.

this is how it looks inside now

E1F0F7B3-E232-4DA0-A61C-C7D8F02AB14A_zpsmxtkubox.jpg

and the temporary go pro mounting
CDC6D22B-8CA9-4A11-9B5F-3F3C2C4D8B1C_zpsn9z72fqx.jpg

The evening at snetterton was okay but the driving standards weren't great, a lot of people in powerful cars who were slowing me down in the corners and then taking off in the straights, i ended up coming into the pits a couple of times just to get away from them, there were also a lot of red flags which is far from ideal on an evening session.

Below is one of the incidents, first lap back out after a red flag and a mini blew its engine dumping its oil in the process, as i came around the corner i hit the oil and lost all grip (pretty scary), but i got lucky and manage to escape any trouble, unfortunately there were 2 caterhams behind me who spun into each other. things like this really do make track day insurance seem worth it.

Anyway! it was a busy evening, as mentioned lots of cars out and generally poor driving standards which is a shame but nevertheless it was still fun, below is one of the only clear(ish) laps i caught on video, it was probably not my fastest nor were my lines great but its the only footage worth posting, on the second lap my fuel light came on so i pitted.

oh... and a little clip of the back end being twitchy, not sure what happens i probably braked more than i needed to.

That is all for now, my plan now is to continue saving for a cage and carry on stripping the car down.

Thanks

Progress is slow at the moment but after what feels like forever i have a small update.. Cup spoiler!

I decided to go for the ebay cup spoiler copy mainly because i prefer the smooth end plates. Originally i was going to spray the whole spoiler white but after placing my scoop on the roof i decided i want a black scoop and spoiler with white end plates.. oh yeah i also have a scoop and a genuine renault sport sabelt with a horn bracket/buttons etc. (Thanks to josh for the bracket/buttons).

Love the look of this wheel. Will fit it when i get a chance.

Painted spoiler. (Sorry for the poor image quality).

Spoiler fitted. It improves the look of the car so much, very pleased with it and it fits perfectly without any issues; not bad for a rep!

IMG_7986_zpschyfv9kb.jpg

Scoop propped on top, i have this mainly because in the summer on track it gets too hot, but i do also quite like the 'cup racer' look. I won't be fitting the scoop until i have a cage so it can sit in my piles of parts i can't fit yet.
