Oh dear... aux belt looks like it's had better days!

Bad burning rubber smell opened up the bonnet to see the above.

It's due a aux/cambelt change anyway :dapprove:

Would a oil leak eventaully rot the belt?

Oil contaminates rubber so yes that's a possible cause.

Well all that area is covered it oil. It was fine when I checked it last week. Just had another look, and most of the belt is split. Looks like it'll be going to the garage on a flat bed

Yeh I wouldnt want to risk driving it otherwise bye bye engine if it goes, unless you put a new belt on to get it there

Yes mate. It was smoking whilst I was stuck in traffic on the M3 luckily I nursed her back home.

Pretty much guaranteed! If it weren't for the fact it runs the waterpump. I'd remove it and pootle about
