Phase 2 gearbox into a ph1

Straight fit but the speedo on the ph1 is driven from the gearbox where as the ph2 isn't.

Early ph2 172 have the gearbox sender too but it's completely luck of the draw which one is which.

I'm only asking as I'm finding it difficult to find a ph1 gearbox,loads of ph2 ones out there just need to no 100%

I've linked Alex W to this thread as I can't tag on my phone and don't know if the earlier boxes have a different code.

Ph1 = JC5 089
Ph2 = JC5 129
Late 172/182 = JC5 130.

Gearing will be shorter on the later boxes, Ph1 has longer gearing. Both a 089 and a 129 has speed sensor in box. Easy to identify though.

Nope. You can use 129. A 172 cup box would be correct as would early 172's.
