Rs tuner connection fault

So I plugged my car into a friends rs tuner and a fault whilst connecting kept occurring so I could not actually access the ecu.
Anyone have this problem?
I have followed all procedures, it's not something stupid like forgot to turn ignition on.

The cable was abit awkward to connect, is the ph1 the same as ph2 OBD2 port.

Any help is appreciated.
