RS Tuner Mapping on a Car with Dealership Warranty

  Clio RS 182
Here's the problem, I want to Map my car using the RS Tuner but my car still has one years warranty left with Evans Halshaw (they carry out the warranty work but I believe the warranty contract is actually with a company based in leeds, if that makes sense).

So say I have the map intalled and something went wrong with the engine, I would then take the car into Evans Halshaw to be fixed under warranty. What is the likelyhood they would find out it had been mapped? and if they did would this be enough to void the warranty?

Thanks in advance,
Mez

Plead ignorance and say it must of already been done! You dint know anything about cars. Chances are they wouldn't know anyway!

Surely if it's an external warranty it would be in their best interest to do the work anyway because they get paid for it?
May be wrong though.

If something happens just return it to the oem map?
I was thinking this but I would I not need the RS Tuner to do this?

I was hoping to sell it on afterwards.

I suppose you're right mate. Any one work at renault who could confirm this? lol

Sorry for bumping this, but looking into purchasing an RS tuner again and just need some confirmation if possible? Cheers.

Buy RS Tuner, install map.

Come to service time, revert back to standard map via RS Tuner.

After service, use the RS Tuner to re-map it again.

Simples.

Does it not tell you that it has been played about with though, bit like what SEAT have that allows technicians to check times of mapping etc.

Good question, can anyone confirm?

and one more question, after reading through some rs tuner threads, and noticing that henk has thrown his toys out the pram and done one saying he isn't doing this that and the other anymore, is there still rs tuner maps available?

Henk got pissed off cos I think someone was slagging him off, so he had a right to "throw his toy out of his pram"
you can still get them and the codes
Go on the fastchips website and get the unlock code €55

There's a difference between being slagged off and someone just being generaly frustrated about the lack of enthusiam in his responses. In sales, the customer is always right, just seemed by what i read that he cant take any constructive criticism at all.

At least the maps are still available for download though, cheers.

Not back to the original question lol.

Yes it would void it, most companies find a reason to avoid warranty work... But as stated I'd change it and then change it back

Won't the dealership's systems clearly display all previous map/software updates?
The RS Tuner unit itself shows a list of any previous installations or updates with a name and date. I am sure their systems are as sophisticated if not more so!

This is the question I now want confirming?

When I had my Zetec-S, I had it remapped. Took it in for it's service and they said nothing about it....

If you take the map off, what are they going to say?!

Just get it done, and stop whining about it lol!

Check what the warranty actually covers, I had a 2 year warranty when I bought my Clio, covered fcuk all though!

Well surely it's only a problem if something goes wrong? They are not going to even look at your ECU if you get it serviced by them. So end result would be - something goes wrong, you pay them or a specialist to fix it. In my experience it is like getting blood out of a stone having stuff replaced on warranty anyway.

They have been alright so far tbh. I took the car in for an mot and service, and they noticed one of my front springs had a crack in it, and they got it replaced on warranty no questions asked.

I might give the guy on the service desk a ring and ask him about it, he's always been sound with me. and as mentioned, they'll get paid from the warranty company so I suppose it would be in there interest to ignore the update list, hmmmm.

Standard procedure in a service is to flash the ecu for faults, we have had cars refused warranty due to ecu work (VW)just speak to the people you decide to get the map from and ask them - they will be the best people to speak to

I suppose like you said, it depends whether the technicians can be bothered or not, I might have to ring the guy on the service desk and ask him. Cheers./
