Yeah I was unsure of the belts on my car, as the invoice had no prices or mileage listed, just the work performed. Ended up getting in contact with the guy that did the work and he is a former Renault mechanic selling Renaultsport's, so he did the job when sold, remembered my car and the car that was t

I was planning having a turbo conversion done in June and have belts and clutch done at same time i suspect that out window now :(

I'm speaking to some guys on here just now about an engine
If I get one with belts etc done and fling in a new clutch car should be mint as suspension and brakes are less than a year old batt and alternator are new too. I miss the wee basterd of a thing already, I have a 08 159 ti as a daily and I think it's done 20 miles in the last month lol

If Dan@sjm has an engine for 450 fully sorted then sounds good to me! 650 all in after a nackered engine is as cheap as you'll find I would say!!

sorry it wasn't something more simple and easy to rectify..... but I did have my suspicions as it sounded like when I experienced timing fault and valve failure in a 172. I hope you get a replacement engine sorted.

cant be sold as seen, you cant see in the engine, the seller stated the belts where done ,by a garage..so he has mislead the buyer..due to the work not being done by an expert ,it has failed..if he would of said, I have changed the belts, myself ,surely that is sold as seen..do you have a have a case, to take him to the small claims court?, if he refuses to refund the money..if you can get the garage to confirm the receipts are forged..that would help your case..wouldn't it? or is it worth all the hassle?

Sold as seen? Was this a dealer sale?

Looking at your posting history it sounds a bit of a shed, no belts, mot fail, engine failure. Is it worth throwing money at it?

Yes, this is the only way you have come back on a private sale. However, if the garage is lying...

Not worth all the hassle but the by the time it got sorted, and violence won't solve anything either he seemed like a nice guy and phoned me to make sure i got home ok etc perhaps he didn't know it was going to fail just fucked off because I wanted a black one and that was only one at the time with belts done and there was lots of new parts and the inside is spotless,
It came with a DVD player that I sold and bought a new hu and cover cost of abs sensor it needed, I should of got the belts done to cover myself I read enough horror stories on here before I bought it

Failed its not on steering arms then passed with no advisorys the belts are the belts I suppose everything else was niggling things like window seals
It was an 800 quid car what could I expect I spent 10 grand on my other car and its costs nothing
The body and running gear is OK at least

get a new engine in,get it all sorted, have peace of mind, and a good little car.. if you see that seller, run him over ha say the brakes failed ha ha

Ok... Go and find me case law of a dealer using it against a member of the public, I'll let you use a case including the words "trade sale" too.

Buyer beware between a private individual to a private buyer with fake invoices will also not be sold as seen

  RB 182 FF
I don't mean to be rude but some people live in dreamworld. Its an 800 quid car, with a very poor effort for a receipt of engine work that the buyer maybe believed was genuine. The engine ate itself, the buyer owned and potentially fettled with the car for a peroid before the engine ate itself, buyer and seller agreed sold as seen and money handed over previously . Buyer could have done all manner of shoddy work or left a wrench in the cambelt by mistake, whilst fettling with something on a perfectly mechanically sound car.

I can guarantee the seller will not be forced to hand any money back to the buyer.....!!

Sold as seen is sold as seen I was mad at first but I do believe he sold me the car thinking it was fine, I had my other car inspected before I bought it I could of done the same with this one.

So you found no case law?

True, he possibly did. But if it went to small claims, he gets a letter from the garage saying these invoices are fake and we've never worked on this car, he has a case against a private seller under the Misrepresention Act.

A buyer enters into a contract after a false statement by the seller.

Would the car have been sold without belts done, possibly, would this buyer have bought it? Possibly!

Personally I don't care if it's got the best receipt in the world the first thing I do is get the belts done.

Do you'd buy a 1*2 with receipts the. Get the belts re done anyway ?

On s car where you can buy an engine and get the belt fitted for the same price as a belt job

The belts require the correct tools and skills to fit properly if it not done right the car prob be 140bhp and worse fail after a short while hence the price and the amount of engines going boom, it also clear that people lie about belts to sell their cars.

Full service and belt change is around 600 mark
New engine full service and belt change fitted is around 800 but that if all goes well there is always the chance of needing new gaskets extra fuilds or something else broke while changing engine.

Prevention is always better than cure only benefit of new engine is the ability to change clutch at same time

Yep. Unless I knew the company that did the belts they'd get done.
My last 2 cars had "belts done" one hadn't, the other the timing was out.

If I don't get belt money knocked off the car I don't buy it

  Clio 172, Escort RST
Elite Autos do their receipts in this fashion. They have changed a few belts on these. What is the colour of the car and the reg of it?

On another note it may cost you more etc. but I'd seriously conisder going to @MicKPM given that the nearest bloke Fred@BTM is now gone.

the car was £800.. had !40,000 miles on it, minus the belts ,in your world its £200.. you can say the engine going is a bonus,he can get a lower mileage one,get everything sorted.
what is going to happen, when these cars are not worth £600,have no belts done,do the owners just give them away?
