Spraying a car a lighter colour

I want to spray a dark green car pink with rattle cans from Halfords. What's the best way to go about it?

Would coating it in primer first would mean when you spray it pink it will go the colour you want?

If you think the colour won't be light enough, whack a coat of white underneath or some white primer.

yeah you want some white on it first or you will use tons of paint to stop it being see through

Like whats already said. White primer on first, then spray ontop of that to give you the same color as whats on the LID of the rattle can. Although, if you read the back of the rattle can of the color you want it tells you what to use as a base for the best outcome. :)
