Temp sender switch or temp transmitter

  Mk1 16v brooklands
Fans not kicking in! Checked the fuse and it was ok!
Fan has been tested and is working...

Basically I've noticed my fab not working since the new engine went in, unplugged the temp sender switch and nothing happened (apart from gauge stopped working)..
Plugged it in and it was getting power ok.
Turned engine on and unplugged it and the fan kicked in.
Plug it in and it stopped! Unplugged it fan started again!

I think it's temp switch but someone mentioned temp transmitter??

  Mk2 Ph2 Clio II 1.6 16v
Mine has been doing the same lately, the mechanic cleaned the temp sensor connector, the fan resistor pack (mounted on the radiator) connector and the main ground lead from the battery to the body and now the fan kicks in as it should! Go for those first.

Well I replaced the temp sender switch and it started working as it should! Now it's started to fail again... Fan doesn't kick in unless I unplug the connector when the engine is running, plug it in and it stops unplug and it works!! WTF
