Tescos Car Insurance

I am all set & ready to collect my new 172 on Monday, but wanted it to stand out a bit so was toying with the idea to change the exhaust to a magnex.

I contacted Tescos who I have taken out a Policy with, to see if it would effect the premium. They wanted to know if it was performance enhancing & if so the benefit as a percentage. I always err on the side of caution when dealing with insurance companies, as theyll do anything not to pay up so was completely honest. The thieves said it would cost an extra £77 a year!!

On the other hand I asked if a set of OZ alloys (Super Ts) would effect the premium, but was advised there would be no increase.

I hate insurance companies!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else had any similar experiencies??

I have a Magnex and Tesco insurance. I told them no performance increase (how could they ever tell?). No charge.

What about the fact that a magnex is advertised & says "Geniuine Performance increase"? If you were to make a claim they may play on it?? I think Im shafted now anyway cos I told them there was an increase in performance. If I suddenly ring them & say it doesnt effect performance theyll be suspicious. In the event of a claim they may use this as an excuse not to pay up. The reality is though the only reason I wanted the magnex is it both looks & sounds the biz.

Provide them with a rolling road print-out of before and after the exhaust was fitted, then see if they offer you a rebate!;)

I always work on the theory that if you tell them just enough youll be ok. If its something totally obvious like wheels or a phat zorst youd better tell them something, but maybe not the whole truth. I wonder how many people tell them about a chip.

172 Horses - Wont changing the exhaust invalidate your warranty anyway... thatll be more of a problem than the premium for the exhaust?

scotty16v - Who would you recommend for the insurance?

Doesnt always affect warranty - Ive had plenty done since I had mine fitted. Guess it depends how you get on with your dealer.

Scotty 16V I went with Tescos as they were by far the cheapest £452 for 31 year old male in Cornwall. I pick the motor up on Monday & was going to add the exhaust to make it stand out from the crowd. I would of thought that even an extra £77 a year for having an exhaust, that Tescos would still be the cheapest.

i found tescos are the cheapest anyway. its costing me 1200 punds a year and im 21 with 2 years no claims. other insurance companies wanted nearly and up to 3 grand. I had a well smart done up completely maxed ford ka before that they insured. a white stretch limo went in the side of me one day and i needs a whole new side to the car, couple of grands worth of damage and tescos paid up no problem, didnt even send an engineer to look at the car or anything. no problems so far with tescos and would recommend them to anyone.

I find elephant the best, its only costing me around £110 extra per year for lowering, 17" alloys, spoiler etc. Insurance was only £690 in the first place anyway. And im 20.

why not try adrian flux or some of those who advertise in the performance mags?...I am sure they will beat a tescos quote.

Really lets think about it if you want advice on your clio where do you surf?..here of course....not the tesco site.

Stick to the specialists they are there and survive for a good reason.

I have personally had bad customer service issues with elephant.

Tescos have been great with me, even making a claim they paid up a very generous amount in no time!

As for mods i had a zorst and induction kit on my 172 - never told em about it and i just went down to the scrappers and took them off before ringing them to say "ive just written me car off"

Id recomment them to anyone, i even got a rough quote of £1200 TPF&T on my williams for next year with no NCB and 1 claim!
