Throttle Bodies (on a 16v this time)

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

I know a few people have looked into this before on the 16v or willy. .

I spoke to a firm yesterday who reckon they can do them no problem on the 16v for a very good price. He did mention i would need to get an inlet manifold though, and something about the wiring loom. im awaiting more details via email as i was trying to jot stuff down whilst on the phone.

So if anyone can give me as much info as possible id appreciate it.

Thanks

Craig Very interesting. Can you forward any details you get to me as well mate:

cheers

well the manifold is usually the problem, and the reason why most of us are still waiting for a conversion. If you can find a manifold to fit your car, then youre 90% of the way there. Fitting standard TBs is then straight forward. If they havent got the wiring loom either, then they really dont have much! Have you tried talking to Nick Hill at Hillpower.co.uk?

aaron - yeah no problem mate.

philip - yeah nick charges about 6 grand though. The guy said the wiring loom can be made easily enough, it was just the inlet that he wasnt sure about. he seemed to think a firm could make them but wasnt 100% sure, just waiting for more details. Thats why i need more info off anyone on here.

.

BenR has said hes going to be looking into this and I think I may follow him down the TB road as I like my engine and cant really afford a turbo conversion. He reckons that it should be under £2.5k all in, using Weber/Alpha stuff. Hes taking his time over it though, so it doesnt look like well be seeing a TBd 16v in Cliosport until next year maybe. (?)

Prima Racing did a TB conversion on a Willy a few years back I read it in a mag, give them a ring.

I paid about £2300 for a TB kit for a Vauxhall XE motor which included everything including wide range Lambda sensor. This was an off the shelf kit . If you bought the stuff separate I would think it will cost about £2000, its then just the time with a specialist to sort out the map. So a price of about £2500 sounds reasonable, quotes for £6000 are a tad high.

Well this company i spoke to reckoned they usually cost the customer between £1600 and £1700 which i thought was cheap. This aint neccesserily on a 16v clio though! But he was confident it wouldnt be any more than this.

problem is your XE motor is highly popular in kit cars, vauxes and even in ford conversions........its been done so many times and there are loads of companies that pecialise in that engine, so parts and kits are readily available. But like ive said before, the F7 engine isnt used in that many cars, if it was used in teh elise like they had planned then we wouldnt have this problem.

With the clio, the bodies, loom, ecu, etc etc are all fine and dandy, but fittnig the buggers with a decent inlet tract lenghth is the problem, not to mention the rad infront of the inlets.....then you need space for a decently sized air filter.

Im taking my time, yup.......because i dont have soding 3 grand to spare! im also rebuilding the fezzy engine, and trying to find a way round 21yrs of rust ! lol

i wont have all the parts for quite a while, and im sure others will get there before me.

good luck to all of ya.

Wow!!!!!

I love the final track action where you see the 172 reel in all the Scoobies, GT Turbos, 16vs, Willys - and a VTS that never stood the smallest chance!!

But isnt it illegal to tune engines for road use in France??

hate that annoying music though!!!!

Mark, you had the benefit of fabricating your own mounts and positioning in the mini though, and there is bags of room in a clubman, normal saloon is another thing and most kits require you to either extend the front of have an air filter poking out.

And how wide is your wide band lambda?

is it the normal 0.2-0.8v lambda?

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

prima do one for the 172....2950, the guy wasnt helpful on the phone, treated me like i aint got the money...paid cash for my 172...t**sers. Good luck with ur hunt m8, il wait a lil longer, get me head fettled with first fnar fnar

Another TBs (for the valver) topic.

Going over this topic again... I remember this:

inlet manifold- can find one at chadil for 250€
Chadil also can suply a kit of inlet manifold+TBs+Trumpets for all F7 engine.
Linkage, ecu+loom and air filter must be sorted my yourself.
You can use std injectors with std fuel rail.

This information was gathered by maciek. He can tell you more about it.

std ecu wont work on the TBs kit. well, if anyone can make it happen on std ecu PLEASE let me know.

It seems that k-tec can suply this TBs kit also. They claim only a gain of 20bhp. I belive with another set of cams (at least 9mm max lift and 108 peak angle) you can really unleesh the power. Only with testing this can be confirmed.

what about the lumpy idle with wild cams? alot of engine builders with experience on TBs says that the lumpy idle will go away when trading the std inlet for TBs. This is another winning point for TBs.

well... TBs is the way to go, but expect alot of work to get this babes working properly. Dont give up!

Could be adiclio16v, all i can remember it was a phase 1 16v that had been re-board to a 2.1, claiming +200bhp, 17" gold allowys i think, i might stil have the mag somewhere, ill have a look.

cor thats a short manifold!

And is that a diff rad at the bottom?

cant really see much, but must be nice.

The Chdil kit is direct to head, and should work fine, but i dont personally like it really.

They also do mudular throttle bodies, which are just as good, but look horrid! lol

Yeah thats the one, nice to see youve got as sad a memory as me when it comes to clio articles, looked sweet back then, went like sh1t off a shovel according to them.

That pic above, can you put both of them small crank case breathers on a stock 16v engive, coz ive got the one on the left on mine at the mo, whats the one on the right for? whered it originally from and too?
