Timing Check

  Clio 182
Picked up a 182 back in Jan and loving it so far! Checked the cambelt etc. was done back in 2012 and only around 10k ago so not due for a while.

Have just had a full service then occurred to me that the guys who did the cambelt weren't specialists so likely the timing is out. Have had an rs192 fitted and looking to get an rstuner but a bit pointless if timing is wrong.

Is there anywhere in near Sussex where I could go to get the timing checked/adjusted? Have done a search but to no avail.

Thanks

2 years and 10k ago. I would probably just pay a specialist to fit a new belt mate.

Plenty of good specialists on here who could do it for a reasonable price.

Isn't sjm automotive near you?

It's personal preference whether you have a new belt kit fitted as this kit hasn't done big miles

Not really, Dan is a long way west & sussex is in the east :p Mike Woodford Motorsport (Staines) or Rentech (Portsmouth) is probably the closest.

Just for reference IIRC Dan@SJM charges a little over £100 to check and adjust timing vs £650 for belts/dephaser/oil (in the south east, Dan is a bit cheaper but not worth it considering the extra petrol money)

Awesome thanks for the help guys :)

Obviously £100 vs £650 is a fair difference and considering I only paid £2k for the car was hoping I could get another couple of years out of the belts.

LOL! "it dus 60 in 2nd mate so it should b spot on"

If you're in doubt go to a specialist and get it checked. If you're concerned enough to spend £100 for peace of mind then just be prepared to pay the whole whack if it turns out it the dephaser is noisy, cam seals are leaking, idlers/tensioner was reused etc.

I think it's fair to say you've misunderstood what he was trying to say.

A healthy Clio will do 60ish in 2nd. But that does not mean that every Clio that can do 60ish in 2nd is healthy.
