Trip computer issues?

Had my Clio for a few weeks now, but only just noticed that when the trip computer gets to about 45 miles left until you need petrol, it just stops working and just has dashes on the screen?

Is this right? Surely it's more useful when it's running really low? Am I doing something wrong?

It's telling you that it's time to fill up.

When these dashes come up, you're petrol light is on.

The car doesn't want to try to tell you exactly how many miles you have left, incase it gets it wrong, you break down, and blame Renault etc.

Just get yourself to a petrol station when or before the dashes come up, there's no point in always emptying the tank anyway.
