V6 exhaust change - bumper off?

I am just about to get the exhaust changed on my mk1 v6, i was just looking at it and wondering wether the bumper needed to come off or can it be done without removing it?

just putting a new std exhaust on, not aftermarket

AFAIK, the bumper does not NEED to come off, but I think it makes the job easier...

i ended up taking the bumper off, made the exhaust change much easier, but was a pain in the arse removing the bumper itself
