What is this sensor?

This is preventing my car from starting intermittently.
I have to wiggle it and get someone to repeatedly try to start the engine until I move the cable into a certain position for it to work.

It's just on the right of the alternator and is connected to the same loom.

Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks

nope that's the oil level sensor - ie naff all to do with the engine starting

its on the same loom as the crank sensor though - there's your problem

Thanks Fred, so your saying that by me wiggling the cable (pictured), its moving a cable around further up the loom on the crank TDC sensor?

So it's not worth trying to clean then, as its intermittent?
Would you recommend I just get a new sensor and wiring kit from Renault (they say the design is new so requires a new cabling kit)?

After replacing the sensor kit (£50 parts from Renault), it turns out the actual problem was the starter motor "control" wire (single wire with spade connector).
It simply was corroded and wasn't making good contact. It was the wiggling of different sensor cables that moved the whole loom enough to create a temporary connection to start.

Bad diagnosis on my part, but after cleaning the connection, all is well!
