  RenaultSport clio 182 mk2
You see the Mini Cooper S is my girls car, and she believes it looks better drives better and is quicker,

Clio Sport 182: 0-60mph 6.356
Mini Cooper S: 0-60mph 7.854

  BMW E46 330i Touring
The Clio, it's a nicer looking car by quite a distance. According to Evo though, the 0-60 times are closer... 7.7 for the Mini and 7.1 for the 182.

Still, the Mini just doesn't look agressive.

Thats not right, Evo say 6.6 for the 182 and 7.8 for the MCS

Autocar say 6.3 for 182 and 7.6 for MCS, also the 182 is a good bit faster to 100 as well

Evo did a test when the MCS and 182 Cup both took in the 19's to get to 100!

yeah i saw that, it doesnt make sense that one test they got the clio 182 to 100 in the 17's and then the next test they got the 182 cup to 100 in the 19's

Does this mean the 182 is faster than the 182 cup?? only kidding!!!

If we're talking figures, the EVO I have in front of me quotes 7.8 for the Mini and 6.6 for the 182.

Your Mrs obviously isn't familiar with the laws of physics, as the Clio is more powerful and weighs less = faster. The Mini probably pulls better from lower down in the Rev range which is why, driving like a woman, she thinks it's faster. Excellent handling cars though.

Also, I'm finding the colour of the Mini quite repulsive, and whilst 182s aren't exactlt rare, Cooper S's are common as muck.

*edit* beaten to it

  172 Cup
After owning 172's/Cup's for 5 years I'd go for the MCS.

A few tenth's of a second isn't everything unless you are making up for lack of endowment ;)

  A4 Avant & A3
clio all the way... although i havn't driven a cooper s, we do have a cooper pool car at work, not too keen on that to be honest, just isn't my cuppa tea.

have you seen any MEN driving mini's?? Come on. All women... although every now and then you see a spotty 17 year old ned/chav wanna race ya

Renaultsport Clio 172 £14,600 4/1998 170/6250 147/5400 156 7.1 138 1/2
Renaultsport Clio 182 £14,613 4/1998 179/6500 148/5250 168 7.1 139
Renaultsport Clio Cup £12,995 4/1998 170/6250 147/5400 171 6.5 138 1/2

this is the 182 cup ... right?? I didnt think that was quoted at 6.5secs?!?!
3 indifferences... the 172cup didnt cost £12995, didnt have 172bhp/tonne, and the 182cup doesnt have 170bhp?!?!

those figures seem poo on a stick

Clio because imho its a better car. Also your going to get a newish car with more warranty. Mini is 2 years old plus (assuming reg in March 03)

Sorry, just had to check this. The 172 Cup was £12,995, weighs a smidge over a ton, so has the 171 bhp/ton (although I think that might actually be in PS), and the 182 Cuo isn't referenced on there.....

Or am I missing something? ;)

sorry got my stats from evo and autocar and have fitted pipercross induction kit which makes a difference.

check www.letstorquebhp.com

its got all the 0-60,0-100,1/4 mile times etc and is quite interesting
check it out

According to that site... the Clio 182 Cup is faster 0 - 60 than a 172 Cup.. i thought the 172 Cup was just faster..

Figures from Parkers.co.uk:

Mini Cooper S: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=Mini&manufacturer_name=22439&model_id=1270&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=

172/182: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=Renault&manufacturer_name=8219&model_id=1263&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/pdf/32763.pdf

from this figures i guess the fastest mini is faster 0 - 60 just than the clios.

But all females love Mini's the Clio is just sexy :)

i pick the clio every time

  Clio 172 mk2
Not sure about the clolour of the Clio but it's what I would have.

I often drive my moms Mini Cooper and it's a nice car...well built etc but you can definately feel the weight when your driving it.

C

Cupster

Mini steering is sooooo loud. Put me off buying one. Plus it felt heavy, slow and boring compared to the cup.

If you're a hairdresser buy the Mini. If not the choice is obvious.

Enjoy your Renaultsport.

  Clio 172 Phase 2
had a cooper s, traded it in after only 10 months for a 172, and money wasn't an issue....says it all really!!!

Mini was fun, but it drinks and isn't as fun to drive as the 172.

Parts are more expensive, however, TLC pack is well worth it, plus its more reliable than the 172.

Overall, i say depends on what you like, if you like a raw feel go for the 182, if you want luxury and piece of mind go for the MCS.
